  1. I mean the radius arm Pete! Being upside down on garage floor has addled my concepts Should the bonnet need pushing down the last 4", not too hard, or have I got something jamming? It creaks.
  2. That is what I meant Pete, I am going to remove the shaft and hub but I'm struggling even to get the shocker bolt off, never mind the leaf spring and anti roll bar. I do not want to resort to a large hammer so I'm going to have to pay a competent mechanic to do the heavy stuff . Hope it is all worth while. I want to get this car up and running properly. Lets hope the pension locks are not interfered with!! No holiday this year
  3. ????? I do have or have had those type of clips in kitchen and bathroom but mine were bright and shiny! This retainer is ancient, probably nearly 50 years old oh well, I'll put it somewhere safe... until something drops off!!? I do not have the strength to start on hub removal, I've tried but my old back is knacked and my old back street garage contacts will be searched out ( if they are still in business!)
  4. Hmmmmm... headlamp area is suspect. Thanks guys
  5. 16 is the bar but it is bolted horizontally to the center of the manifold. (all alone I think) Not to worry, I was going to have a day off today but think I'll get my overalls on and have a better look at it (wife moans about grease on my jeans and jumpers... I don't know... wimin!!). The rear end is up on ramps now, I'm going to clean up all the drive shaft attachment bolts ready for removal and UJ replacement! Edited to say, Had a closer look and of course it bolts the exhaust manifold to the inlet manifold. I wonder if, even though it is very tight, it is actually slack as the bar can rotate, could there be an air leak ther!!!?
  6. Thanks Pete, does the stud that this nut screws onto do anything else? I find it hard to see down there, or is it only to hold the bar that the cable goes to?
  7. The bar that holds the carb. end of the cable nipple is a touch "loose" and I cannot tighten the nut attaching it to the bottom of the exhaust manifold. Should I try harder or is there some trick to this operation? Otherwise the car (now christened Plumb) is coming on well. Had withdrawal symptoms yesterday when site down
  8. I found this on floor in front of car yesterday. Anyone recognise it?
  9. Here is a picture of mine. I do not believe it has been adulterated
  10. Yes Pete, gotcha. The rocker cover has a breather to air filter but it is not air tight. That is just emissions 'control' surely, not related to mixture ?? I have checked mixture via about 1/16 inch lift and all is well. I have sensitive finger tips and can feel the piston no problem Jeff
  11. Just double checked and maybe the diaphragm body lug was a touch out. Hey! I have a tickling stick on the carb!!! No need to take air filter off and use a thin screwdriver. Very handy. No mention of that in the manual. No chance to test it when warmed up as it was raining and I'm not waterproof! What exactly is the breather system? The vacuum pipe to distributor seems a bit manky, might replace that. Time for T again. Enough today
  12. Thanks again guys. Just had a relaxing day attempting to waterproof the roof. I've tried renovo, I've tried turtle wax conditioner and finally I'm trying fabsil (for tents). Also refitting door mirrors that wobble all over, cleaning all glass work and double checked carb for leaks and correctly fitted diaphragm. And! went for a WALK with wife
  13. Thanks guys. I replaced the diaphragm last week and am happy it is 'in its slots. there is 'tiny' movement in the spindle but nothing much at all, Piston drops well and no movements anywhere. Guess it is a worn body then. Just like mine! I guess with 126k (engine only has 26K) the CD150 is nearly 50yrs old so will need attention. What is best way to refurb? can I get parts and DIY?...............the list is getting longer, my temper shorter, my pockets emptier and my wife is getting ignored
  14. Got the car warmed up properly for the first time since purchase yesterday and my idle revs were about 1100, throttle stop was screwed right back and the choke quadrant was clear. Could not get it to slow down. Unscrewed damper a touch and it reved even higher! What is worn lads? seriously getting me down now. Do not suppose there are any old triumph specialists just north east of Hadrian's wall
  15. Has anyone drilled and tapped the caps off institu? How to I get the visor back into the clip/hole? Questions questions It's getting me down actually, maybe should not have started this project. Back is ko'd
  16. I hear you all and see your comments, thanks. Went under with a crow bar to test for movement but it was not high enough and the bar was too long and my back started to give in so I tried a long screwdriver and..... maybe ... I maybe think that there is a little movement on both but I'm not sure (but the noise confirms the problem I think). Then it all went skew whiff.... the new ignition barrel I fitted the other day came out with the key! Fortunately no tumblers lost and ages later I think I have managed to get the pin to pop into its hole, then I noticed the passenger sun visor had come out of its socket...!!! an hour later and with filing and fiddling it was still NOT in its little pocked. Then my daughter turned up in her pug207 with the heat shield banging about.... 2 hours later it is T time. Enough!
  17. Well thank you too Paul. Most informative. So the cross piece goes into flange and end caps ( with roller bearings) go on from outside. Eureka I understand them now. Strange that I've never had a uj problem in 50 years of faffing!
  18. Right, cheers. More testing in the morning. Probably better to do the pair. I see how to get hub off and axle out but the uj's themselves.... how do they come out/get replaced? It looks like a trapped unit with the flange. I see there are circlips but do they push far enough to pop out of flange??? never done a uj.
  19. Majic, thanks Pete, my nuts are tight but the UJ will be looked at tomorrow. big learning curve started.
  20. Herald 13/60. I have a rotational 'thrum thrum thrum', very noticeable at very low speeds circa every second at 5mph. Disappears (well maybe) as I get up to 30 and sometimes cannot hear it when I slow down again??? I'm new to these and wonder where I should start. I have jacked up all 4 corners and rotated all 4 wheels, there is no bearing noises or movement and no brake binding sounds, in fact they rotate very silently.. Do I look at prop shaft or UJ's or what? Cheers for any tips/advise
  21. I've found my driving gloves!!! 52years old. Bit tight now
  22. Hairdo aside..... she was smiling!!! Not a feature I see often these days. Makes it all worthwhile:)
  23. Progress!! Took the wife out for a run along the coast today, top down, sunshine! Gearbox remote all bushed up, brakes checked and getting used to them. Few rattles and squeaks but nothing major Keep getting sidelined into body titivating instead of concentrating on the mechanics. I'll get there, with improved arm and leg muscles. Thanks guys. This site is invaluable. Thanks to all (and casper)
  24. Thanks John. 2k is max I will do and 'cruising ' only. All good to know. Cheers
  25. Wonder if my head is suitable for unleaded. Any easy way to tell?
