  1. Ahhh. Egg white! Splitting the yolk out was always a problem:) Thanks again Colin.
  2. Sorry to bother you again, I'm getting on well with repairs and some upgrades and perhaps should start another thread BUT I find the whole site a bit confusing and am overwhelmed by the options So... can I ask if the stamped number on my block ( FH29366HE) means anything to anyone? Google is useless AND.... is this 'stop leak' additive for engine oil any use at all? I have a couple of small drips but suspect, when looking under, that it possibly from the bell-housing joint and one from slightly further back???. so may be gearbox/OD. I have cleaned it up and will check again after next run out. I did a mile or two yesterday and am much happier with the feel and the braking capabilities. Still need to check out much more before I venture any further. Thanks guys
  3. Wow, nonmember you are the man. Can you write a book for newbies! I'll ask, you answer You saved me a lot of bother there. Thescrapman, yea, I checked it before I refitted it all (and the carpets).....2 hours it took and 5 mins later, clink, circlip pops out again!!!! Here we go again! I'll get a better circlip I think. (Size?) Chris, I've seen those rotational ones that you set up yourself. The wife really needs inertia.....once you get her going she never stops thanks again folks
  4. I started filling it in and then it went on about last year and I only just got mine (not the xmas cake)
  5. Thanks, I found the lug slot in the piston no problem but could not see one in the top cover????? Although I did see the lug on top of the diaphragm. Am I missing something obvious due to senility I wonder?..........Damn... I'm going to have to take the top off and have another look am I ? At the moment I am refitting the gearbox cover! Do we really need all those hold down screws, it's doing my back in!! Taken over an hour to do 5 out of 10? I want to get on with 1) sorting the roof webbing (how many of the hoops is the webbing physically attached to? mine seems to be the rear one and the 2nd one from rear.) and adjusting it outwards to try to get a rainproof seal to back of windows 2) changing brake fluid and checking all pads/shoes calipers and lines 3) changing both gearbox and engine oils. Is the engine oil filter special? I read about non return valve/s 4) sorting steering column upper support bracket. No one said the studs pulled out of the bottom support if you kept tightening them !!! I still have a small twisting motion which de-orientates the stalks a fraction 5) sorting the throttle pedal pivot and spring! Is that a little split pin holding it in place? Mine wobbles side to side! 6) getting a new ignition barrel as the key is not really needed! 7) Improving the speed of the windscreen wipers ? 😎 rejigging the door lock so I do not need to use my shoulder to open the door (any tips?) 9) sourcing Inertia seat-belts (are they available for the convertible?) 10) cleaning the plastic windows (any recommendations?) 11) flush and replace cooling system 12 replace plugs and points Ohhh I've run out of brackets wife said make a list. ..... I just did Cheers for indulging me and any help and or tips will be well received
  6. Thanks guys. I admit the pancake is for bling, it's just a trial Johnny, I did have to slacken off and centre the jet as well as rotate the piston (is there a defined set up? ie retaining grub to front) and the top! Does that have a defined position too? All seems good now, so it is on to fluid changes and brake overhaul next......
  7. Ahhh... the sweet sound of a stromberg sucking and a 700rpm tickover. ( new diaphragm) What a nightmare getting it screwed down and keeping the air valve free!! Found the sweet position for it AND the sweet position for the top. I'm sure SUs are easier but not as efficient ? What you guys reckon on pancake air filters??? Or..... is that a can of worms too!!!
  8. Gotcha Colin. Great information. I thought that would be it. I hate removing old seals! They crack up and may need replacement. I'll go at it very gently. I have small chromed trims on each end, do these just prise off? Got my bonnet lined up today and rear seat squab out and rain water removed. Next is new diaphragm to carb. Hope that stops rich running......so much on my list and I keep getting sidelined !
  9. Great, thanks Colin. My main question is 'how do you access the front webbing plates?' they look like they may be under a substantial bit of trim and I do not want to damage the whole front to windscreen seal!! Grateful if anyone can point me the right way, neither Haynes or workshop manual (1969!) give any detail
  10. The seller threw in a very classy car cover, a Polco fully waterproof multi layered with soft cotton lining with an air vent flap at windscreen level. Maybe I can wrap that on and use a periscope for driving about in How do I get to the retaining plate at the front for the roof webbing? I think I will be able to see the plate at the rear.once I remove the 'head cloth retaining strip' I guess this is the chrome bit with popper studs on. Webbing is shot! Is seat belt webbing ok to use? Sun has come out
  11. Cheers guys. Vinegar and brown paper might fix it Not in the mood today, it's pouring down
  12. Thanks Colin. I'll get it tidied up and traced sometime but at the moment my priority is the roof. Do these re-proofers really work? Probably only for a few months! and not at all in really heavy rain. Even a brand new one would struggle with what we had 10 minutes of! It's in my garage now, drying out My 'modern car's is on drive suffering the storm, it's never been wet before Thanks to you too Pete, you came in whilst I was typeing
  13. Never mind all my little mechanical problems (which I am well on top of) I also had reproofed the hood and thought it looked good...until...what a rainstorm we had this afternoon!!!. Poured straight in..soaked whole interior. Spotted some pinprick size holes and a pinhead size one too but the whole hood is soaked in and out. Bloody mess. I'll dry it out in garage and re-reproof it but probably need a new one. Where is best? Rimmer? Here is a pic of o/d wiring all the red wires. Fed from coil. ????
  14. Is this a thread hijack? I am, at the moment, not interested in a servo, power steering or electric help or.... bigger pedals! What I am trying to get is is information on some fairly minor repairs that I have to do to get my 'new to me 1360' back on the road safely. I'm willing to start another thread but as I seem to have a fair bit of attention here, from SOME very knowledgeable members, I was hoping to keep MY thread concentrated on MY problems and not fantasize about future modifications. Thank you Sorry... this damn machine is doing my head, wallet and patience in it was not this hard in the '60s AND... even sorrier to Doug who replied whilst I was typing ... nice one Doug, I'll look at them
  15. Guys, do you mind if I keep using this thread for my queries? Let me know if I should go to the relevant section and start a new one. I'll be doing that any way with a 'history/rebuild/repair when I get it sorted anyway So.... got my refurbish kit and started to replace bits. Cheated really and just did knob off and bayonet fitting removed and took off all the bits. Cir-clip popped of no problem. New bottom spring on, NEW cir-clip on and the rest. Nice and tight, all greased up, 1,2,3 &4 slick and easy. Pushed down for reverse nice and gently... oh not quite getting pin below plate.... push a bit harder... PING.... cir-clip pops out of groove!!! Bugger... had a look at gear stick and the groove is shamfered!!! (is the stop plate adjustable a bit upwards?) I degreased the groove, twisted the cir-clip and...still ping, every time you press down a touch too hard, off she pops Do I need a new stick or can you maybe cut a deeper groove and pinch the cir-clip? Also, the new nylon ball was far too tight to push down the shaft so I used the solid old one for the moment, should I ream it out or just force it on. Help

  17. Thanks Johnny and Pete. I've got to say that after over 50 years of driving I have got into and controlled many a skid. I did some rallying in the 1970s. My problem is leg strength and possibly laziness, having had servo and power steering for the last 30-40 years! Buying this car is a big step back (or forward) for me but it is also my choice what I do to my car. I dislike abs and traction control and most other 'modern ' additions. All the best.
  18. Eeeeek. Can of worms! I'll stand back and duck the flack. I am getting on a bit and muscles are weak. Power assisted steering....!!! ??? Naaah. I'm not that soft. I put a 10" steering wheel on one of my spitfires back in '72.
  19. Nice to 'meet' you Chris. It is good to know that some cars are actually on the road!.... It will be a few more days before I get the brakes sorted :) unless their performance at the moment is all I can expect! Would a servo addition be 'anti classic?'
  20. Oh dear! ... ok and thanks. I'll open a new paper file on this car, it will be thick!!
  21. Any idea what age it is then? Pity I have no way of contacting previous owners (5 on log book when I signed it). Lad I bought it from must have only had it a short time as a lass was registered keeper. (Since September 2018) I have her name address and email and have emailed her 4/5 days ago but nothing back. Lad said her dad had given it to her after having it from new!!!?? (5 keepers) and driven it regularly to Cyprus!!!. There is a full set of basic spares and yellow headlight converters so this is believed. Lad got it from a garage in Poole area where it was sitting in corner doing nowt. He seems to know the lass as he said she had px for something posh! Oh well. Refurb continues when it cools a bit.
  22. Interesting. We had numerous similar fall outs within the celica gt4 community. Got that geabox number looks like DG106119. So, guys... what is it???
  23. Would you believe it!! The radio aerial cable was tangled up near the switch and loose in the back of radio causing the crackling!!! Phew! I'll still check it all out though.
  24. Found the ignition switch was still in aux position! No key in. Could start the car, open the door and the boot with a screwdriver. Just like the old days. That's it. I'm done for the day What will tomorrow bring, apart from 29 degrees!! Toon Toon
