  1. Hmmmm. I hope so I'll get a better video of that in the morning. The noise seems much stronger at the hub end mind??? I'll retry my timber stethoscope too. Thanks Colin
  2. Reet. Bit of a hedge podge and not much of uj but it seems fine. Exhaust is so crackly but you can still hear the doomp doomp doomp. My back gave in. Sitting down now. Old garages shut but still going. I'll call them later. I really need to know if I should take link off again and how to plug the hard brake pipe as bleeding is the worst part! 3 videos to come 20200821_151921.mp4 20200821_151223.mp4 20200821_151025.mp4
  3. Thanks Johny, I'll look into it when problem confirmed. Colin, I'm out going round my old 'back street garages' to see what they got. I checked with drum on and off and saw no movement. I'll video that and get under to vid the uj too. My wife has left me.........for a few days, cat sitting at the daughters and I seem to be Billy no mates at the moment. Do what I can. Report back tonight. Thanks.
  4. Cheers Johny, That's what I meant. I'll do both and the trunnion bits too. Where's best to get them?
  5. Ohhhh bollards, are you guys sure ? I suppose it must be the bearing(s) as the trunnion doesn't make noises..... So, what hope have I got of getting the hub off with my screwdriver and hammer??? Where is best place to get what I need? should I get the taper bearing as well? and do the trunnion too? Guess the summer will be over before I get on the road again
  6. Well the good news is that there is no sign of the shaft being bent. The video is probably a waste of time. I did it alone whilst spinning the hub. BUT...... when the wife came back from tai chi, I got her to crank the hub round with the drum off and I got a 2' timber stethoscope, she lost her chi but I found the noise came from the trunnion not the diff. Phew. So.... I'll study the book and find what to do next :). Comments? 20200821_103900.mp4
  7. I haven't switched wheels Colin.....could this lead to an easy diagnosis I wonder. Reet... that's tomorrows first job reet is geordie for right btw my phone camera is playing up but the wife WILL do as I ask (I hope) how the heck could the PO have bent the shaft! ... got a right pup here? ok all. Thanks a bunch. Filming starts tomorrow.
  8. Yes it was in 1st at tickover. Thanks. Not sure how to check trunnion but I'll start stripping the o/s hub and get drum off and try and feel what's what. If it is the stub shaft, I guess its uj off again . Cheers Kevin ... that's worth a look.but the noise stopped when o/s not rotating so it must be from diff outwards Gawd my backs going to be kod tomorrow Thank you all. Keep 'em coming. Pity no members near me. All my old mechanics have passed away I've just noticed on the video that the pulse noise and a little warped rotation (watch tyre edge) go together. is my wheel distorted? ...more to investigate! Hope this leads to a successful conclusion and helps others out!!!??? Sorry for filling the forum
  9. Ummmmm I'm pretty sure they are ... I had them all unbolted during my abortive uj replacements ??? What you thinking?... catching on casing??... Its not that sort of noise I don't think. When my mind calms down, I'll have a closer 'listen' but I'm not in the mood at the moment Keep firing the thoughts at me please. All sugestions welcome Thank you everyone ..... blaaaaaagh bugrit
  10. Thanks Dave, I got it all back together and now still have the knock. Colin, I'm 99% sure it is not wheel related. Also now sure it is not brake related. I jacked up and axle stands under and found that it is the o/s wheel rotation related The o/s was spinning freely and knocking at each rotation. The n/s was static ??? possible badly adjusted handbrake, never mind... span n/s and it kept going and rate of noise halved, I then held o/s still and noise stopped BUT the wheel tried to jerk out of my hand on every rotation. !!??? Something in the diff? I listened but as all joints were rotating I could not get very close, diff itself just whirring gently... I think. Was alone so no one to hold wheels still and trace the noise definitively Any clues from this 'jerking', trying to rotate when I held it? Had enough. Going to sit in sun. This was to be my daily ... fat chance Woop! wife (non technical) took video added ? No idea how to do this what is url and ... oh bog it. I give up knockingrotation.html
  11. Hi Pete, yea, that is what I intend to do later. I just hope it knocks when not loaded. I know this noise..... I'm sure I have experienced it 40-50 years ago! Cannot for the life of me remember what it was though. First point of attack is brakes. At least I have new uj's:)
  12. It's NOT the universal joints. I am now officially totally and completely P****d off
  13. Well, after an hour of using what seemed like 2 arms, a knee, an elbow and gorillas strength also nearly snapping my hammer shank I now have a substantial screwdriver in the spring link and the radius arm in place. My lighting is poor so I'm waiting for sunrise...on the road again.tomorrow??? just to confirm that the the shaft was connected during this, so the spring had to be levered UP!
  14. Phew. Right. Thanks. A weight of my mind and the link got the wrong book! I'd make a complaint if they are still in business
  15. Ahhh! My book says ...1st spring, then shocker, then shaft then radius arm!!! Flipping autodata know nothing??? Great. Thanks. Tomorrow I may be on the road again:) There's a song like that
  16. Cheers Johny, spring has not been touched thanks It's weird this twist ??? Its like the inner shaft is pointing backwards... but it is not. Probably just my ignorance and reluctance to use force I'll try again tomorrow. Back and shoulders done in! Thanks p.s. the other side was no bother
  17. Well my ujs arrived and I fitted my N/S (did o/s last week) this morning. The 6" vice I got was no use as a 'press' as it has very coarse thread. OK for gripping though. Took half an hour and no fallen needles/pins. Fitted Link back to spring, fitted shocker whilst jacked up a bit, eventually got flanges lined up and the 4 bolts in and tightened, what a pain I got in my shoulders but I did it! Tried to fit radius arm back but it was "an inch too short " so I jiggled about, jack up jack down Twisted this, pushed that but no way any closer than half an inch away. Having a break now and looking at it, the driveshaft is angled backwards and sitting on the chassis. it only just clears the 'A mount for the shocker. This seems a good inch further back than the offside. Evan jacking it up, lifting off the axle stand it is way back too far The top bushes of both the link to spring and shocker to top mount are at an angle, both bolts in, but slack. Tightening them does not pull the link forward, neither does hitting it with a rubber mallet. What have I done this time?
  18. Hi John and hey Pete... my antics uj's were ok, it's just my lack of vice/clamps that made me use impact method to refit the uj caps. Not recommended! John, it's a doddle to take the link, hub and axle off. Only problem is brake pipe fluid loss and bleeding after. Use a hammer shank to lift leaf spring back in line. Not a problem. Good luck.
  19. Ok guys and thanks. I read all this just too late. I just used my Rimmers account to get two non nippled ones, GUJ115 cost 30+. No bad reports of them? The ANG one that broke was a GUJ101 MG, Origin UK. The one I broke the nipple was Rimmers GUJ115 (HS194) Classic heavy duty. I struggle to find my way round the club shop and am not a paying member yet. All my spare coin has gone on bits, so maybe next month. The rollers I used were tooo big! Even with just 2 in (one broke, one lost) the spider would not enter. Must be a finite difference! What a bummer. so....spending weekend on body titivating. Have a good one ATB
  20. Guys guys guys... I'm doing nothing unusual or untoward....... honest...really I've just had two strange mishaps in a couple of days!!! One, the roller dropping through from one cap to other, due to lack of grease in spider and two, a "weak" roller which I cannot understand how it fractured. Naturally, for one i first targeted the cap that would not sit only to find an "extra" roller but not knowing how many there should be and then finding the other end was at fault ....and now, definitely unusual. My rollers are the same in both Peter. I too have experienced fallen rollers but the cap then feels wrong and circlip will not go in so...wiggle off stand them up slap grease on and push back gently I'm pleased some do give them a wack (thescrapman, poppyman and Pete) but At the moment I like to be more gentle and persuasive... I'll build up to wacking them when I do get annoyed love it really. I've been too keen to get out in it (christened PLUM btw) no sex yet. ...bit like many I know. ATB all.
  21. Good point Nigel. I've no idea how it broke, I did not force anything but felt a grinding when rotated, fortunately before I did the final push!
  22. Cheers. They are cheap enough. Broke a roller see pic. on my latest post. Given up for the day. No progress.
  23. Does this happen often? Or is it just me and this d### car of mine. I guess one from the spare uj i now have will be ok as a replacement? What a day! Edited to say that this was brand new and broke either before or during fitting but was not subject to any undue force. Might have a word with supplier.
  24. Your all nuts! Loose or what? So...I have just had a new uj delivered from Anglia whatsit. Grease nipple in one cap. On the rimmers one the nipple, on yoke, got damaged during my on off on off hit it with a big hammer episode. I'll keep it as a spare and put some grease in cross piece. I complained to rimmer about the lack of grease and they replied "we will tell manufacturers " So... I need a new nipple for it, or a blank. Where do I get that? Fitting the new one in the next hour.....will I be on the road before dark ???
