Definately do not use a "twin sports" jobbie. I put one on my recently (sorta) finished spitfire. Noisy, and unless you enjoy the attention, would not recommend. I am thinking of putting a different rear box on, previously used one of an escort rs turbo.....
I think I must have the worlds only "reasonably quiet" twin pipe jobbie.... Must have been stuffing them a bit tighter that day... :-)

Chris
Are there any restrictions associated with either of the 2 designations? Is one better (cheaper!) than the other?
Hours of usage, mileages?
You hunt at modifications, is it like the German system where everything has to be as it left the factory??

The early engines used the Vit 1600 bottom end.
This is good!
You can still buy Vanvervell VP2 bearings for the bottom end.
The engine is much "sweeter" and revs more freely.
So check your crankshaft dimensions.

Hello all,
Im very new to the classic scene and just brought a Triumph Vitesse 1967 Cabriolet. The engine has been changed to the 2.5 GT6/2500 along with the running gear and axle (i presume).
Thank you in advance
Rich
I would suspect it is still teh original gearbox and rear axle. Much easier that way.
Where is reverse? If next to 1st it is small chassis Triumph, if next to 4th it is big saloon.
You may be limited with space to the wheel arch if you have twin HS6, so perhaps look for the 2.5S pancake type airbox and remote filter. That may be why you have no filters!

You do not have a 15ACR, as that would have 3 terminals on the back, not 5.
I think you have the alternator type that is fitted to early Mk2 2000 saloons, which uses a different wiring setup.

Stag headlight setup is different to Vitesse / 2000. It has dip on outer, and main on inside.
Best is to go to the Vitesse setup, dip on outer, main on all 4.
Best ones you can buy by a long way are Cibie, but at £200+ it is not a cheap upgrade.
I have purchased a set of the cheapo chinese ones from Bad Boy Classics, and they are not that bad, and a 1/4 the price.

Check when the Spartan was last on the road.
Legislation killed off a good few that were incorrectly registered, and it all but impossble to get them on the road now.
I was lucky with my Moss, The LVLO changed it when it had not become an issue, many were not so lucky.
It is not usually possible to get an old kit-car through an IVA/SVA.
You could always convert it back into a Vitesse.. :-)

Fuel tank not breathing?
But I would have put my bet on coil if you hadn't changed it already.
-
Very late cars had steering locks, perhaps they used different fittings.
Also later bulkheads have different wiper spacing, so different motors and wheelboxes. Do not ask how I know.. :-(
Perhaps there are other differences???

Tony L-D did an article in the Courier a few years back, with his follow up to the research into KK's Octopus. He found there was a restriction in teh oil gallery where it went past the distributor drive, which is what KK and then he was resolving with their Octopi.
I think this is only in the 6-cyl cars.
Anyway, don't bother with the feed.

They should have orange needles for starters. That will weed out the Vitesse and / or Spitfire ones.
I think they are all Smiths, I'll have to check later.
The speedo (?) should only have 1 tell-tale light at the bottom, Mk2/3 have more than 1, HRW perhaps?
The other large gauge has teh standard 3 tell-tales.

Mmmmm
I found a different listing for some very ropey looking links... :-(
That one is bad though, but nothing a quick wire brushing wouldn't sort out.

A Mk3 spitfire may have a feed from the coil to power the overdrive loom.
Other Triumph models certainly do get the feed from there, so a Spitfire may be the same.

Sorry I wasn't clear in my post.
I've a Spitfire 1500 with a lean on the rear off side. This is noticable from the rear. If I reverse the lean changes to a very upright car with postive camber.
I've renewed the spring, using a standard one, and the diff (because of a rumbling sound) and trunions. This made no difference, although it rides better.
I'll try out the test discribed and advise.
Peter
If the camber / lean changes when you reverse, that suggests your rear alignment is out.
Get a long straight edge, the bottom of the sill is parallel, so you can see if the alignment is out.
If one side toes out, it will drag the suspension down on that side when going forward. Reversing jacks teh suspension up.

Time will tell - even with the sound muted I suspect it will be better than most TV offerings!
I am not convinced it will be better.....
I used to like QW, but he's a knob on that program.
JK is nice eye candy, but is not a presenter by any stretch of the imagination.

If you a truly fantastic GT6, and possibly one of the best on the market, and are will to pay the price........

Definatly not standard, my car has none, and no sign any were ever fitted. There are square holes behind the plastic you can just feel if you push hard enough. Ready to accept the push in self-tapper recepticle.
None fitted to the 3 Mk3 I have broken either.
TR6 ones are more upmarket than Mk4 spitfire ones, and attach in a different place, nor am I convinced the Spitfire screen frame has the mounting holes in the correct place for TR6 visors.
And I am revising my thoughts on origin, I think they might be Herald Convertible or GT6, and mounted incorrectly.
They could be screwed onto the vertical face so pulling them further away from the mirror.
-
I would try contacting Guy Singleton (Bond Secretary), he may have some ideas on best way to re-home it.

Mk3 spitfires did not have sun visors as standard, though I have seen people fit TR6 or Mk4 Spitfire ones.
You have a set from a Herald fitted.
Also your mirror looks a bit big for a Mk3 one.

Most of the Mk1 GT6 dash switches are unique I think, (some are shared with 1300FWD), they are small toggles with a 90 degree bend in them and a etching on the end.

The interior light one is very fragile.

A friend has Mk1 MX-5 seats in his Mk3 GT6.
Says they are nice and comfortable.
Didn't take him long at all to fit them I think.

I thought everybody was going to ritually burn their tax discs on the 1st Oct last year, but no-one seems to have done.
On the CT RBRR mine was the only car without one in the window I think.
I swapped mine for "Tax in Post" written on the back of an envelope a-la Del-boy Trotter.

you can please some of the people, some of the time, cant believe people are complaining about a free service......
I can understend where he is coming from, as they do not have tax discs in the Netherlands, they do not have tax disc holders, so he has nothing to put his free membership disc in, so will have to resort to cellotaping it to the screen. or whatever stickytape brand is popi;lar over there.
Now if the overseas members had also been sent a free holder....... :-)

Lots of us use Valvoline VR1 or Millers Classic Sport (the Sport is important). There is also a Penrite one that is good.
