Herald passenger door repair.

Hi everyone,

Got a very original herald door the other week which has not be re-skinned. The frame and original skim seem very solid just not down the central section on the lip. I have a new door skin but it seems a shame. Has anyone done localised repairs on doors? Is it even possible? Any advise before I get the grinder out?

The door on the car has split around the usual quarter light area so would need skinning. Was intending to keep it on the car and do the spare door to switch over

Thank you in advance 👍

Martin

When you cut the rot out from the bottom of that skin, you will find that the bottom of the frame needs attention. The bits are available, as Paul said.

I did the driver's door on my Vitesse a couple of years back. It needed quite a lot of work on the bottom of the shell:

Then it got the bottom skin panel:

After some filler and stopper:

It came out OK:

I did both mine, they where quite bad. I cut just below the “swage” line. The end result was less than satisfactory. But most likely due to my (very) “rusty” welding skills, quite a lot of distortion. They have gone on but I am “in the market” for a couple of decent replacements. Should the opportunity arise.
