Hi All,

So after a complete braking system rebuild pipes hoses seals etc, tested yesterday and functions correctly, BUT..........

Just after a second opinion, I think these new front hoses, as supplied by Mev spares, are way too short.  I will try to contact him but dont hold out much hope as he does not answer either the get in touch thing on the web site or the phone.

What do you guys think ?IMG_3554.jpg.3c6fa00533c1b3d70d56414add48fdc1.jpgIMG_3553.jpg.d170675e532c0b9272cfdb8cf87aabf3.jpgIMG_3549.jpg.2bebbbf419189a72b5f6cb6bceeaefd3.jpgIMG_3552.jpg.e9b37f3a5f22e8f35eff38c92091608c.jpg

I went down this avenue  a couple of years ago.

Please see my post “Spitfire front braided hose specs”  27 Oct 2021.

Some years earlier I had bought a  pair GB216GR  from Rimmer but had only just got  around to fitting them.

They looked too tight on full lock.

When I contacted them, Rimmer’s  no longer listed GBH216GR but listed GBH216PLUS 50 and  they   said,

GBH216PLUS50 should address the issues you are having”

My  issue was that GBH216GR  hoses looked too short to me.90AAFBF8-5BC8-4B3C-B4CE-C32ED282A017.thumb.jpeg.1437442131899a03b3367c9b0c2e4fef.jpeg

- They are.

I fitted  Earle ( GBH 211S, I think ) above,  from Paddocks

The difference isn’t large, but significant.7AA38826-2C90-496C-960F-546C6C6C7673.thumb.jpeg.d272406d50024b3ad148b38b56b635cb.jpeg.

seems incredible doesnt it that they still offer both standard and +50mm versions of the Goodridge hose unless of course theres that much variation between individual cars its necessary to have the choice! Think Rimmers ought to explain that on their webpage although of course the standard rubber hose only comes in the one size. The 2L Vitesse front hose GBH203 is even more complicated with standard, +50mm and +90mm on sale🤪

I brought locally here some Hel SS Braided hoses plastic covered for my daughters Mk2 Spit the front hoses are 540mm long, ample length, there to be fitted when I upgrade to the later Mk3 onwards Type14 Caliper.

20 years ago during the cars rebuild I brought SS Braided ex UK Gooodridge, they had no plastic sleeve between the SS and swaged end fitting, afterwards I found out these are illegal here not ADR (Aus Design Rule) compliant, appears they're worried that the SS braiding may work harden and fracture therefore possibly damaging the inner poly hose or reducing the clamping/swaging effect!! hence the plastic sleeve on the examples shown which are ADR compliant. I'm sure the cracking/tearing of your hose's plastic sleeve would be considered a failure? I assume the cracking of the swaged sleeve is due to the hose being too short.

Now for the interesting or funny thing re the Hel hose kit (TRI-3-004) for a Mk2 Spit, I brought it assuming 4 hoses 2 each front and rear, NOO it came with 3 hoses only one for the rear? I contacted Hel Ausi and explained the car has an independent rear suspension so 2 hoses are reqd, their response was they usually only get asked for 3 hoses for the Spitfire, but they do a 4 hose kit TRI-4-004. Obviously I stuck to my guns and got the 4th hose at cost, around 1/3 RRP, plus free postage, still a lot cheaper than paying ex UK or getting individual hoses made locally, the 4 hoses cost me less than $145, they don't have a short swaged plastic sleeve but a full plastic covering over the full length of the SS braiding and which is fitted under the swaged end fitting, the plastic covering as a bonus has immitation carbon fibre effect!, & their ADR compliant.

oh I think that might explain the different sizes Peter, how does this sound:

In the original rubber only version theres no risk of the braiding/swaging causing a problem if the hose gets strained a little in use so one size will do. However with the Goodridge that is a risk so they supply longer versions to ensure theres plenty of free play....

Hi All, quick update, got the front pipes refunded, could not really argue about the rears as they seemed to be the right length,  but decided to get a full set (from goodridge) from Chic Doig, and replaced them all.  Now I'm happy, the entire braking system is now complete and done properly.  Now to change clutch fluid to the left over silicone stuff ;)

Hi Johny, if you dont me asking where did you get the drawing, is it on line ?  cheers.

well that drawing is from the GT6/Vitesse Triumph workshop manual as theres many similarities with the smaller engine models. That manual along with one for some Spitfires (but not 1500) are available at:
