WestChiltRanger
Hi. I’m looking for some advice on the TSSC rear shock conversion for a MK2 Vitesse. I’ve bought the TSSC kit and the instructions tell you to loosen the bolts on the rear tub, then jack the tub gently just to create enough space to insert the brackets between the body and the chassis. I’ve done this, but when I jack it up the whole car is lifting, the tub seems to be fused to the chassis. I’m wondering if anyone has any other ideas. I don’t think the tub has ever been of the chassis since new.
Pete Lewis
have you removed the bolts in the front of the boot above the diff tunnel and seat belts can also confound tub lifting Pete
WestChiltRanger
Yes I’ve loosened the bolts above the diff tunnel, these are the bolts that the shock bracket slides into. I’ve checked the seatbelts and they seem okay.
Paul H
Just check the top brackets are handed . Mine were the same and fitted one and it was pig to remove . When I did the same job the body did move a fraction but it was very difficult to drive in the bracket . Paul

Can’t remember if it’s one or two bolts Paul
WestChiltRanger
Thanks for the heads up. I have undone the outrigger bolts, there’s 2 on each side but still no joy. 2 minutes ago, Paul H said: You don’t mention you’ve remove the outrigger bolts which are accessed from the boot area a few inches away from the rear light clusters . johny
Sounds like it might need some sort of wedge (wooden) to help it separate?
WestChiltRanger
I have been jacking the tub with wood just to spread the load.
johny
I meant a wedge between chassis and tub in suitable locations?
WestChiltRanger
I’ll have to look into that idea, although the gap between the tub and the chassis is limited.
johny
true, its got to be a thin end wedge and I think wood, if possible, would be best to minimise any damage...
Josef
Are all the body mounting bolts you have loosened definitely free to move? I’ve just had to cut the ones that didn’t break off the front of my Herald which similarly is unlikely to have been apart since it was built. One was seized to the chassis and so preventing me lifting the bulkhead.
WestChiltRanger
All the bolts seemed to have loosened off fairly easily and have lifted. The rear outriggers were replaced in 2016.
Paul H
I think I loosened the side rail bolts as well . Not sure if this helped. I also modified this steel rule to “slide” the top mount in Paul
WestChiltRanger
I’ve also loosened the side rail bolts as well. That looks a handy tool.
