1969Mk3Spitfire
This is a non Triumph car but the breadth and depth of knowledge and experience on this forum is second to none, so I hope you’ll indulge me. The exhaust consists of a long pipe and a single rear box, it’s a 1980s turbo application. The pipe is in very good condition but the box isn’t. The only available exhausts for this car seem to be larger bore, stainless steel, I don’t want one of these as I prefer originality. Does anyone know if/where I could get a new rear box fabricated? Many thanks.
Iain T
I've used Hayward & Scott at Basildon Essex but there must be a manufacturer closer to you. Iain
Colin Lindsay
We have a number of exhaust manufacturers over here, all Industrial-estate type businesses and very approachable, so I'd guess you'll have a few close to you too - they'll happily adapt one. What car is it for? Might be able to search for an original over tea later.
Mjit
Just google "exhaust fabricators". I finally got too old for being unable to speak to my passenger/having ringing ears for 30min after a long drive in my wheelbarrow equiped Spitfire and got a new rear system built to my "a good rasp/burble around town but not as drony at motorway cruising speeds" requirements by Powerflow (nationwide) - and it does exactly what I asked for. Find some local to you and pay them a visit/see what they can do for you.
1969Mk3Spitfire
Many thanks, some useful info. Googling has pointed me in the direction of Macclesfield, not a million miles away from me. I’ll contact them to see if they can help. Thanks, @Colin Lindsay, that’s generous of you to offer to browse. It’s a 1990 Escort RS Turbo Series 2. The only “as original” that I can find in a from Motomobil, Germany. I contacted them before Christmas and they couldn’t find anyone to ship one to UK. They said that they would have to cut it into pieces less than 1.2m long, for me to weld it back together, due to shipping issues. Plus, there’s the issue of additional Brexit costs. https://www.motomobil.com/en/products/exhaust-system-complete-cvh-16i-97kw-rs-turbo-as-original-16522590-2 I have a Mongoose exhaust for it but I consider it an act of vandalism to fit it. The original one I’ve found has very good pipes but the box is a bit dodgy, hence I’d like to replace it.

As my previous post try Hayward Scott they should know all about the RS. H&S have been around for around 40+ years so includes your cars era. My wife had a silver grey RS Turbo! Iain Hi Iain, I’ll contact H&S based upon the above, thanks. Your wife very clearly is a discerning lady, good choice. The one I’m referring to is Black, in keeping with Henry’s view. I bought it new but sold it in 2016. I managed to buy it back last year and it came fitted with a dreadful, big bore exhaust, hence I’m trying to put it back to original. I’ve found a pretty good replacement but I’d be happier if I could put a new back box in it. I also have a Mercury Grey one.
