alan.gilbert_6384
Hi everyone, Does anyone know where to obtain metal mirror door locators , the wedge bit that mounts on the plight ? They used to be metal in the dark and distance past but are now rubbish plastic things that don't seem to work very well
Pete Lewis
think the plastic was developed so when you knock an old lady off her bike it detaches easily agree the plastic ones are a bit rubbish a good project for 3D printing ???? some metal ones Pete

You don't get as many points for an old lady, as a MAMIL
Pete Lewis
i changed mine to rivnuts and proper screws but its still a bit vibro at times the grub screw can be forced off the base quite easily its called progress Ha Pete
Keith Nock
Hi Pete what parts of the old base was metal was it just the mirror bar which the grub screw locates on, or was it both parts of the base regards Keith
Pete Lewis
it is the door plinth is now made of the black plastic part here >> the trim with the nasty rawlplug can be easily converted to rivnuts to aid stability its the small plastic shoe that lets the mirror grub screw disengage /let go Edited March 30, 2023 by Pete Lewis
Keith Nock
Hi Pete I have the same as above on my GT6 I was wondering what parts on the original ones were metal Regards keith
Pete Lewis
in the good old days the black plastic location plate was made of metal so the grub screw really stayed put if you add rivnuts to replace the silly rawlplug idea its best to add a metal to back up the door skin helps with vibration if the door skin flex's Pete
Keith Nock
Thanks Pete I may have a go at making some should be quite strait forward Regards keith
Peter Truman
Had no success with the plastic plate/bar several mirrors knocked off and glass broken, so now all my Triumphs have the metal bar & like PeteL rivnuted on with an internal door backing plate, a lot more stable. Over the years I've collected the metal bars and am down to only one left but they should be easy to fabricate/file

Papa Smurf
My car came with both types of mirror, square and bullet. I ended up putting bullet ones on as the plastic plate fitting of the square ones looked so shonky. The bullet ones are rock solid when fitted but rubbish vision wise.. Pete Lewis
yes you need to get some convex mirrors for Bullets to work less stand off helps the vibration of the rectangulars Pete
