Andrew
Hello to you all. Advice required please. Can someone tell me the correct procedure for replacing the original front sealing block with a new stainless steal one purchases for the club shop. Is it just a case of removing the sump and replacing the block or is it not that simple. thanks for your help in advance
Pete Lewis
thats about it sump off and remove the old replace with the new you do need so reseal and refit new wooden wedges that closely seal the ends of the block to the crankcase and being a 4 cyl getting the sump off is a bit easier than a 6 cyl you may need to raise the engine and drop the rack as you have to fiddle the sump past the oil pump Pete
johny
The bridge piece also seals against the front engine plate which has a big gasket which you should try at all costs not to damage as you remove the old bridge piece. You might get away with it if the gasket isnt stuck and then reseal using a compound while doing up the front fixing bolt/s first before tightening up the two that attach the bridge to the block. Unfortunately its quite common to end up with leaks in this area.....

johny
Good luck and let us know how you get on. As I say you might be able to get a fine blade between the bridge piece and the front engine plate gasket to separate them or of course remove the timing cover and front plate to replace the gasket complete... 68vitesse
Not saying I've done it, don't forget to take the dipstick out when removing the sump with engine in the car. Endless frustration untill you do. Regards Paul.
