Carpet underlay

I need to fit some new underlay for my vitesse - is there any problem in using normal house carpet underlay?

I’d guess that it’ll be less friendly towards heat, oil, water etc.

I did away with it when I fitted Silent Coat heat and sound deadening. Others have used 2nd hand modern underlay from dead moderns, cut to fit, no one will see it!

Even for cars that are not convertibles best to avoid anything that might tend to hold  water like  - closed cell foam rather than open cell with its sponge like effect-and the  older type car felt ( unless you seek  an  original  disintegrating carpet old car smell!)

If you've got a local scrappy they'll sell / give you sheets of modern underlay from modern cars. They don't use it themselves and have to dispose of it. Often garishly coloured but it's resistant to just about everything and probably fire retardant too.
