To rebuild existing or supply/fit a reconditioned unit?

Mooredale motors, picton sports cars are a couple of Triumph specialists who spring to mind.

If you are prepared to travel then Mike Papworth has an enviable reputation.

It is making some horrible noises. Coming out of Enfield show last bank holiday weekend the diff bottomed out on a speed hump due to an aftermarket period handling kit. Then I dropped of my girlfriend when to put the car beck in the garage and the very same handling kit hit one of the security metal posts that was in the dropped position!

If I could figure out how to add a video I would I have posted in on the Facebook Vitesse page and I have had some useful advice a couple suggesting it might be UJ'S rather than diff. One of the UJ'S is grunchy but the diff is also making noise.

Sorry Pete I won't be able to make this evenings meeting.

Family to feed, bills coming in... same as the rest of us.

That's the problem Colin it didn't need work it WAS in very good condition but not it is sitting in the garage with its backside in the air minus it's wheels and my girlfriend is asking what are we going to go to car shows in now!

Unusual for a UJ to make a noise, that is usually a wheel bearing :(

Which period kit? camber compensator? (being nosey!)

Sounds like a thorough inspection needed to find the problem, unless the case broke and lost all the oil. Not always easy to spot.

Hi Clive I took the UJ apart and there was a roll pin broken into 3 pieces some going given the short length of them. There is also a problem in the diff it is noisy and notchy when you spin it over by hand so I will be looking for a replacement. Luckily I have 2 days off at the end of the week so all being well I can get it back on the road.

Thanks to everyone for the advice I will let you know how I get on.

Could be bearings in the diff.

Sounds like you dodged a bullet with the UJ too.

You may be able to get somebody to refurb the diff, but many fit a recon as it keeps time off the road short.

Shame you are not closer, we have a "pet" gearbox/diff chap down here who is good at fixing them (within reason, even he can't fix a damaged crownwheel/pinion)

yikes   catastrophic

this is generally due to wild wheel spins on mud or ice and suddenly one gets a violent grip'  and Bang !

seen it on  local authority   using std trucks with snow ploughs

did you follow up the  local email diff from dave

Pete
