similar heads??

Can anyone tell me whether a dolly 1500 engine is the same as a spit 1500 engine??

Similar but not the same..... Might be cam and head differences.

So can I change heads? I am aware there may be compression differences with the crank stroke but is there any way with the block numbers whether I can identify whether the blocks and strokes are the same??

Courier 174 Dec 1994 and the next few issues.  Worth a read from the Club's Courier CD.  I think 177 March 1995 is the one you want.

 

Spit 1500, Dolly 1500(1976 on) Dolly 1500HL and Spit 1500 are identical engines.

 

1500 FWD and 1500 TC has a slightly lower lift cam and 8.5:1 CR

 

Canley website has details of engine numbers. 

 

Heads/cams could be changed.  How do you know they haven't been changed already?

I dont know whether the internals have been changed but I acquired the dolly engine and was going to strip it, recondition it and use it as spares for the spit engine. If it wasn't compatible then I was going to just strip and reassemble. In fact im still at a loss with what to do with it.

as you have both engines   carefully measure the head depth if they are the same , thats a good start

 

  think all 1500 had same valves , inlets on 1300 after engine FC25000 had larger inlets than the 1500 ,

Engines were identical from the factory.

Only difference is the sump and poss the oil pump (as the dolly has the oil bowl of the sump at the front, and the oil pickup pipe may be angled differently)
