ian.osprey
I need to replace the door strikers on the car. Rimmers have them in their sale, but they are less sliders and springs. What do the sliders and springs do, and should they be replaced if visibly worn? Ian
mishmosh
The old ones are normally fine to reuse. They hold the lock tight and help stop it rattling. They are fairly rubbish though !
Clive
I have found they work well? however, usually need to be cleaned/degreased and all the old muck removed, and then a smear of grease. If you don't use them the door will indeed bounce/rattle (even more) They do not wear, only the striker to edge seems to get worn.
ian.osprey
Thanks guys. Re-use it is. The strikers are truly mangled, and there is slight wear on the slider, but since it appears to work by wedging the striker/door plate together (?) it looks as though they may self compensate. i.e. simply move further into place. Clive
Thats it. the slider needs to move freely, and works as you say.
Pete Lewis
the slider stops the latch rising out of the striker with body movements. the taper sprung wedge takes out any 'lift' clearance , without it the cam lever can lift up and above the striker latch face and .... the door opens convertible have the added tongue and staple same as the TR's to double up t a solution to this . the spring can be repaired with some careful work, may need annealing with a small heat source to re form any broken ends its a fiddle but possible Pete
mishmosh
Watch the square peg on the door side. It can wear badly.
