david lewis
my 1969 13/60 is fitted with 165 width tyres, are these too wide?--they seem to be quite big on the wheels and I am wondering if this could be dangerous i.e rolling off the rims on hard cornering. any advice? Clive
Maybe a tad big if they are 3 1/2j wheels. Wouldn't be too scared, but 155 as wide as I would fit to them. This may help http://www.lvvta.org.nz/documents/infosheets/LVVTA_Info_01-2009_V2_Tyre_Size_to_Wheel_Size_Compatibility_Guide.pdf If 4.5j wheels, they will be fine. david lewis
I have just noticed that the tyres are 10 years old and although they have plenty of tread I think I will change them and fit 155,s cheers
Clive
Very wise. 155 80's (don't be tempted by 70 series, they will look wrong!) Some good buys out there if you look carefully! (even better if you can fit yourself or have a cheap fitter)
mishmosh
My 165 80 tyres give great rolling radius but do catch the arches slightly.
Darren Groves
I use 165/70/13 and they fit fine, very close rolling radius to original crossply tyres.
Clive
But the max width is determined by the wheel. Remember heralds (mostly) were fitted with skinny 3 1/2j wheels. Change to 4 1/2 or 5 1/2 and yes, wider tyres will be OK.
