Ian Cooper Posted April 19, 2019 Report Share Posted April 19, 2019 I am reassembling a 1970 mk2 GT6 and whilst replacing the old engine mountings I discovered the original mountings have shims behind them. Shims are not shown in the parts catalogue has anyone any idea why these might have been fitted and can I safely leave them out of the rebuild? Pete Lewis Posted April 19, 2019 Report Share Posted April 19, 2019 This as arisen before im sure they used a camber shim to align the turrets with the chassis rails I dont remember any shim between mounting and turret unless the mount is the wrong side of he turret and some correction was required ??? You can see the top of the shims (two on each side, they look like the lower wishbone shims) sandwiched between the rubber mounting and the engine mounting bracket. Nick Jones Posted April 19, 2019 Report Share Posted April 19, 2019 Normal..... used to lift/tip the engine as needed to miss the steering rack, keep exhaust downpipe away from the chassis and so on.
