Frank E Bouy
Anyone have any wisdom on the bushes on the Carb Throttle spindle, for a Vitesse Mk2 (1969) Can't see them anywhere in any parts catalogues, and one of mine, in particular, is very worn. In the early "good old days" such units would be an exchange item, if such issues occurred. Today you will need to have the bush removed and a replacement fitted. I suggest a search on the Net to obtain these or go the quick route via Burlen etc. Certainly doable for the home mechanic.
GFL
I don't think any bushing was ever fitted originally! They are notorious for wearing out, letting air in and upsetting the ability to get a low tick over speed. I had some exchange re-conditioned CD150s Carbs off Andrew Turner the Carburetor specialist and I believe he does fit proper Phosphor bronze type Bushes when he fits the new Spindles? NonMember
Indeed, no bushes from the factory. While they are prone to wear, the majority of that wear tends to be on the brass spindle rather than the alloy body, though obviously the body will wear eventually and can then be recovered by fitting bushes. Pete Lewis
later CDSE carbs had a seal /bush 516983 try burlen pete
daverclasper
A simple way, (though can't remember if the connecting rods to spindles at one carb have to be separated at the UV joint?) to determine if the bodies are worn, is to move the spindle along, to an unworn area of it and check play. johny
As I understand it to fit bushes to the older carbs on Vitesses they have to be reamed right through both at the same time once theyre installed to get the correct alignment for the spindle. This would be the same for carbs that have been previously modified to accept bushes.....
Pete Lewis
any re boring of the spindle must be done with a mandrill led reamer and the body located exactly or the throttle plate will never close properly shoud any misalignment occur Pete
