Herald dashboard repair

Hi

Finish on Herald dash is splitting and lifting - seems to be worse in hot weather.

Any tips on how to patch repair rather than full dash strip and restoration?

Hello

had this problem on my herald. Sand down area affected and apply yacht varnis but apply in very thin layers I put one layer on applied my brush every night for about two weeks. This way each layer dries and you build up a good hard finish.

some use a floor varnish , just an idea from the back of the grey stuff

Danish oil is excellent. It can be thinned down and applied with a lint free cloth. As with other treatments, thin coats and then wax polish.

Hi Rodger, after years of boat ownership, if you are going down the varnish route, as said sand down the whole dash and before you apply your first coat of varnish dilute it with a suitable thinner to 50/50 then apply a thin coat this way the varnish gets right into the grain and let it fully dry. Give it a light sand with steel wool and keep applying and light sanding between coats, reducing the thinner each time until your last coat is varnish with no added thinner. It depends on how much you want your dash to 'pop' on how many coats you apply.
