Vitesse 6 generator regulator mounting

Recommended Posts

Afternoon.

I am slowly rebuilding my Vitesse 6 and am converting it to an alternator.

I stripped the generator regulator to act a termination point for the wiring

One of the problems I have is that I am using a 13/60 bulkhead from a NZ assembled car and I do not have the mounts for the Vitesse RB340 dynamo regulator.

Does anyone know how this was mounted behind the left side kick panel, I am assuming that it wasnt just selftapper screws through the side of the bulkhead as that would be very ugly so am assuming some sort of captive nuts or clips. A photo would be appreciated if possible.

The power punch was used to punch holes into the copper strip, a lot better than drilling.

I made the missing mount from a piece of fuel line that I put in my lathe and cut a groove in the outside.

Thanks

Adrian

why use the rb box at all  a new decent cable from alt to solenoid terminal  and a simple wire to the warning   lamp,  new wires of higher capacity  ..not connections to worry about

i had a 85 amp unit on for years and used the orig brackets and spacer mounts

Hi Pete

its because I want to😏

As we are in lockdown here in NZ I am not able to get extra cable to modify the loom till it is all over.

I am trying to get as much done as I am able too with what I have available to me in my garage

If I can get the car going as close to standard as possible I will then modify it when it is back on the road.

OK, but even if you're not running new cable, you aren't actually using the regulator. All you need is some way to connect the appropriate wires together. Unless you want to go back to a dynamo at any point, the easiest is probably to cut off the spade connectors and connect with line crimps or solder joints.

I will rephrase my original question to this.

'I am rebuilding my Vitesse 6 with a NZ built 13/60 bulkhead and I want to refit the generator regulator box in its original position behind the left side kick panel. Can someone please inform me as to how the reg was fixed to the car as the donor car does not have the mounts to fit this. A photo would be appreciated

sorrydont have the car to photo   but  my parts list shows  3 off  screw  510975    3 off  nut 503627   3 off lock washer 505260  as control box to body

so with no clues in the WSM  it would seem the screws are  3 drilled holes through the side kick plate  , not weld studs or anything special

I just cant remember    if thats the way   a dab of sealer to keep any splash/rain from seeping  from outside would be a good idea

Well that was a waste of time,

I looks like in the past 37 years I have fitted the car with a 2 litre loom which means the wires are not long enough to reach into the left kick panel, I can verify this as my wires are not long enough🙄

So I will not be remounting the regulator and will as was suggested terminate the wires 3 x large spades together, two small spades together and the earth wire tucked out of the way.

Thanks for the replies.

And the 2 litre regulator is behind the dash left side . as seen in the factory wsm.
