Colin Lindsay
Anyone got a spare one of these curved fan balance weights lying about? I'm missing one from a Herald engine fan but I know they were used on other contemporary models of the time too. I thought I'd sourced one online a few days back but it's massive, far too large for the Herald fan, so can't find a source. Original part number of ours is (I think) 38665. All tips and pointers appreciated, or if you have one PM me. Thanks in advance!
RogerH
Hi Colin, I may have one off a TR4A. Have you got any dimensions for when I dig it out (assuming I can find it), Roger
Colin Lindsay
Roger - it looks to be about 3 1/4 inches (it's a strange optical effect that when I line it up by eye it's 3 and a quarter but when I photograph it, it looks to be shorter at either end and so closer to 3 and an eighth) (The silver one is one I bought recently after being assured they were all the same, it's from a Jaguar / Daimler)

Pete Lewis
me i would fit a plastic yellow fan better air CFM and much quieter , doesnt need balancing being so much lighter ..less mass and if buying or winning one how would you know the positioning pin hole to correct the balance will be anywhere near whats actually needed Pete

Yuck. I'd fit a metal Herald one long before that. In any case, it was because I was asked if I had anything that required balancing, to test out a machine, and want to see if we can make it work on fans... RogerH
Hi Colin, I searched my garage from top to bottom and the balance weight evaded me - sorry. Roger
Colin Lindsay
No worries Roger, I've done that myself plenty of times. When it does turn up, in about 2027, whilst you're looking for something else, can you PM me to see if I still need one?
RogerH
I can see the damned thing in my minds eye. It is taking the micky. Roger
Colin Lindsay
Spent the last two hours trying to find a brass accelerator jet from a Solex carb; like you I can see it in the bottom of a box of bits... but just not the actual box of bits. It's holding up the entire operation, too... Update: just found it in a box of electrical bits. Logical, really.
