Problem starting vitesse

The starter arrived a couple of weeks ago, work and family have prevented progress but I have now started to remove the old start, it doesn’t look old but that means nothing as I don’t know where it came from. 
Is there any short cuts to assist with the removal, I’ve removed the engine valance, and can now access the starter but cannot find a way of removing the top bolt - is it a case of gear box cover out again?

Yes its normally cover off or its certainly a lot easier that way. However with a specially made tool Ive always wondered if it wouldnt be possible to hold the nut from the front...

its is possible to get a swivel/folding socket spanner on the top one  getting it back can be another headache 

even  much faffing around with a ring  but the simplest is tunnel out  ...sorry

the tunnel comes out easier if you drop the heater box cable    and its  just two screws 

to remove the  air distribution box gives more room to remove the tunnel 

apart from being upside down on your back in varifocals   all help

My fibre glass cover comes out easy enough BUT I do have to remove the radio which is underhang from the front bottom lip of the dash

The starter motor is fitted, engine turns over a lot better, it’s a completely different sound (quite noisy) but the car started much easier.
