Stratton Jimmer
My GT6 (1971) has chrome ventilation louvres but I note that many cars had body coloured ones. When did the change from chrome to body colour take place?
dougbgt6
1s and 2s have them, I've seen a few on 3s, but these may be add ons. Most 3s are body colour plastic, cost saving! Doug
Colin Lindsay
If I remember correctly 2s are a different shape form 3s so can't be interchanged. I would have guessed body colour for the Mk3, but then with Triumph you just never know.
chrishawley
AFAIK all GT6 mk3s had body coloured ventilation louvres. My GT6 is was registered in May '71 and that has them in body colour. I can't speak for all the previous Mk3s (Oct 70 - April 71) but chrome is maybe unlikely. There was on ever one part number (909453/4) so no indication of a documented change in style. Yup, and the ventilation extraction was changed on the Mk3 from the smaller type on Mk2 and none on the Mk1.s
dougbgt6
I was wrong! None on MK1s! But, rattle can says you can have any colour you want. Not sure about the blue one, might be a trick of the light. And yes, they're a different shape. Doug
Stratton Jimmer
Here's my chromed Mk3. The colour is not its original one but is Delft Blue.
dougbgt6
Nice! Side indicators! Did you add those? And what are those 3 chrome bits next to the bonnet catch? Nice bumpers, re-chromed? Doug
Stratton Jimmer
I only bought this car in August. The bonnet isn't entirely original. It is from a Spitfire Mk4 with the original bonnet's bulge welded in. The side indicators are non-functioning at the moment. Once I finish the drive shaft replacements the wiring is probably the next job as some of it is iffy to say the least. The bumpers are not rechromed, it is just a trick of the light making them look better than they really are. Not too bad though.
