  1. Question: will a Vitesse Mk2 exhaust down pipe & system fit a Mk1 manifold and non rotoflex car?
  2. Are you interested in selling the 631?
  3. All should be made clear hear. His videos are very helpful
  4. Does anyone know what the thread is on the inlet manifold water outlet banjo bolts? i need to re-tap mine / clean up the manifold thread
  5. Trouble is Pete its multiple OCD (Obsessive Compression Desire 🤣) it comes from working on aircraft for years and wanting to make everything as perfect as possible.
  6. Used a De-Walt 18v cordless drill but it killed the battery after 2 minutes! i had to keep a lot of down pressure on the drill to keep it engaged in the oil pump! i’ll warm the sump I with a 2KW fan heater to get the oil up to temp and see what the pressure does. id look at putting an extra copper washer under the valve body if I needed to drop the pressure, but going by what everybody is saying I’m probably ok as is .k I’m now looking at pressurising the water system before I fit the engine to check the core plugs for leaks. Probably going to turn up aluminium blanks for the water hoses and then tap one to take a screw in schraher tyre valve. Then pump air in up to 7 psi and leak check with soapy water....
  7. Will do Pete. What’s the difference in a C40 & C40L apart from the length??
  8. Yup one engine has a C40 and the other has a C40L! Sods law my spacer that’s been plated is for the C40L and the Dynamator is a C40

    Oil pressure

Evening all had a good weekend pretty much finishing off my 1600 engine re-build and finding annoying little nuances that I now need to undo ( I bought a dynamator but it’s shorter than the dynamo that was fitted to this engine by 1/2”, the one in my car is the same as the dynamator so i now need to swap around brackets and spacers!) anyway to the point: After filling up with oil I’ve spun up the oil pump with a drill and adapter to prime the oil system. I had an oil pressure gauge fitted and it was showing 100psi!! I removed the pressure relief valve, checked it over and found nothing wrong ( it’s a new spring and plunger). To see if it was sticking / stuck I put the old one back in and it was the same. So as to make sure I didn’t have a blocked oil return from the pressure relief valve I reassembled it without the valve and spring. As I expected I got no oil pressure. Anyone any ideas? I’m going to try another oil pressure gauge but I don’t think it’s that. Do the pressure relief valves need setting up ( washers between the valve body and block) to adjust the relief valve spring tension??
  10. I used them to dynamic balance my crank / flywheel etc and balance by rods / pistons, . They also bored out the cam follower bores to take the later larger diameter followers. Great service from these guys
  11. Ha ha. I know that feeling. I’ve a NPT magnetic plug coming now.... anyone want a BSP one, I’ve a few spares!!! I’ll be glad once this spare engine is in the car.... once i’ve got the sump plug I can prime the oil system and check the oil Pressure before fitting. Carbs are nearly Finished, just trying to find damper weights as the set I’ve got came off a 2ltr with damper springs. I managed to adapt new linkage springs to fit and turned up bushes to support them on the body. 3 years and nearly finished!! ( then on to re-building the spare overdrive gearbox!) the wife said she would only let me buy this car if it wasn’t taken to bits to restore....she never said anything about buying spares to rebuild and transplant into the car... 😂
  12. Thanks for this but Why does an 3/8 NPT tap screw straight into the sump and gearbox plug holes?
  13. Pete ive tried the fleabay / Quillers one in my spare gearbox and I get the same result. It only goes in 2 turns
  14. Pete thats the one I bought, it’s Quillers selling it.
  15. Hmmm after buying another magnetic sump plug from the e bay seller it turns outs its Quillers selling them so ive yet another supposedly 3/8 bsp one from them that doesn’t fit. It goes in 2 turns then locks up! It doesn’t have enough taper to go in further it’s an almost a parallel thread on the magnetic sump plug provided! Where’s my existing non magnetic one has a definite taper. Anyone bought one that actually fits s screws in at least 4 turns??
  16. Thanks for that Andy i was going to get my old distributor overhauled. I wasn’t aware of 123 Ignition. I’ve e mailed them for prices. It may be a more cost effective option as the overhaul is around £200 to put it back to as new spec. So more expensive to convert but as you say I’ll be paying by the hour on the RR so cheaper in the long term!
  17. Thanks Pete, that ties up as the old sump plug easily went in 4 turns and the NPT chart says 4.32 to hand tight
  18. Pete. I've this afternoon managed to borrow a 3/8 NPT tap and it goes into the sump threads fine so the magnetic plugs I've got cant be the right thread. Time to order another magnetic plug!
  19. Thanks Pete. I did buy 2 magnetic 3/8 NPT sump plugs from Quilers and they only go in 2 turns, whereas the old sump plug goes in 4 full turns. I'll try getting some from somewhere else. I assumed the sump was BSP as they didnt fit!
  20. Thanks. I’ll go with the Lucas. It’s a 41168 B so it’s from a 2 Ltr. It has 167 after it so I guess it’s from Jan 67 will the springs need changing as it’s going in a mildly got at 1600 with a 2 Ltr cam and ported head with 6-3-1 exhaust and are the fly weights the same on both 1600 & 2 Ltr? i guess the only real way to tell will be to rolling road it once it’s all fitted
  21. Is the 1600 sump plug thread 3/8 bsp? I’m looking for a magnetic sump plug to catch all the running in ferrous fuzz !

    Distributors

Is there a better distributor out of the Delco and Lucas units fitted to the Vitesse 6? I have both in the garage to fit to my rebuilt engine and intend to re-build only one but I’m not sure which one to concentrate on!
  23. All sorted, I was just too cautious winding down the rocker pedestals. All cold gaps set and nearly finished the build... on a Vitesse can you drop in the engine fully dressed, ie carbs on, generator fitted, gearbox fitted with starter attached?? Thanks
  24. Pete id need to pull the head off again to swap them out. I’ll check tomorrow to make sure I can get the cold clearances. If I can then I guess its ok. I wasn’t expecting to have to compress the valves putting the rocker shaft on with the adjusters wound right out.
  25. Thanks guys good point well put. Yes two will always be opening so I guess this is normal! Thanks
