Having nearly rebuilt the spare Vitesse 1600 engine and in the last throws of assembly, I have a problem.
When I put the rocker assembly onto the head I can’t get it down without compressing a valve when the cam is at max lift, even with the rocker adjuster wound right out!
a bit of history. The head has been skimmed 30 thou so 30 thou shims have been put under the rocker pedestal to keep the geometry correct.
A 2ltr 308778 can has been fitted but that only give 12 thou more lift than the standard one
The small diameter tappets have been bored out and the larger ones from Jigsaw fitted.
now I have a 63 thou gap under the rocker pedestal when the pushrod touches the rocker and the rocker contacts the valve !
all I can think is that the jigsaw tappets are thicker and are lifting the push rods up too much.
Were the 2 Ltd push rods shorter?
any ideas????

Does anyone know the weight of the Stromberg CD150 piston diaphragm weight on a Vitesse 1600 & 2 Ltr?
im trying to work out what I’ve got fitted and I’m told the 1600 pistons without piston springs had different weight diaphragm retainer weights.
I’ve just bought a new Vitesse front valance from that well known supplier near Lincoln. I’ve just discovered it’s not got the bumper bracket or lower attachment brackets fitted. ( See the pictures for what I’m on about)
I’d assumed that it would come with these as they aren’t listed separately in the parts book !
Does anyone know if the valance should have these fitted as if so this ones going back!
Alternatively does any one supply the lower brackets as I could weld them on. ( I can make the bumper bracket if needed)
Perfect thanks
I’ve just found on Wittors site under technical is a good guide to valve springs and spacers.

I’m in the middle of re-building my cylinder head. I’ve got double valve springs but am struggling with the lower spring guide. ( item 24 in the picture)
I have a mix of thicknesses 8 that are 0.183” thick and 4 that are 0.120 thick.
I’m now confused...as this will alter the tension on the inner spring.
Does anyone have a set or some spares I could make a full equal set out of?
they appear to be obsolete so I can’t even by a new set!
Nope those don’t fit.
I have tried Burlen, Southern Carburetors, Gower and Lee, & Carburetor hospital.
None of them have the springs, does anyone have any more recommendations to try????
Thanks guys
the page must be missing from my manual ( it’s the original black workshop manual in the binder so easy for pages to get lost over the years!)
On a Vitesse 1600 with CD150’s, what is the float height?
and is the height till it touches the float chamber valve or till it’s depressed???
The worship manual doesn’t quote the height for Strombergs, only SU’s.
Pete
The one without the drilled housing is HB5144HE
and the one with the drilled water pump housing is HB27500HE
I’ll have a look around at the Southern meet tomorrow to see if I can fathom it out....
I’m replacing the engine on my vitesse 6
On the old engine the water temperature sensor fits into the water pump housing opposite the take off for the inlet manifold .
on my new engine the water pump housing doesn’t have a hole to screw it into so where are the water temp sensors located on this style of engine???
Does anyone know where I can get just the air valve compression spring for a Lockheed remote servo ... mines just decided to do a Zeberdee impression across the garage and now is playing hide and seek!!!!
I’m considering getting myself a TR4 to go with the Vitesse.... ( the wife said if I cleared the garage out I could get another car...!!! )
I’ve found a likely candidate but the vin plate and body tub have different numbers on them, was this common with Triumph???
how long do heritage records take to come through as I want to check the details before I buy.
