  1. Hello John, I've had a look at that and there is a contact in the UK on the website. I've fired off an email, we'll see how it goes and thanks for that! Derek.
  2. Mark, it was in an old building that was being cleared out for demolition, it had been part workshop and part stores for a LOT of years. The company I worked for bought the building in the 1940s, it had been built during the First World War for the coal industry.
  3. Ps scrapman, sorry, the only thing on the box is the Sheen name/badge.
  4. Thanks for your interest guys, genuinely, I haven't a clue what it is or how old it is either! Here's another pic where hopefully you can gauge the size better and see the label. Also, there's an L-shaped "stop" for the swinging needle. The factory where I'd spent the best part of my working life closed and I was one of the last to leave in 2005, this item got mixed up with my tools when I brought them home...
  5. Hello John, its the front grey pointer that swings, very freely too... Derek.
  6. Hello, I'm just doing some prep work with my car stuff ready for moving house and came across this, not for use on a car I know, but I've always wondered exactly what it is! It's made by Sheen instruments of Richmond, Surrey. Do you know? Derek.
  7. It's odd when you're looking at something and a word or phrase seems to jump off the page... Westcliffe on Sea features in the history of my Spitfire, namely the Southend Motor and Aero Co. Ltd. I've never been able to find any information or photos of it unfortunately but would love to be able to see what it was like.

    Spark plugs

Some feedback regarding this thread... I've finally got round to fitting a set of W7DTC's and have to say there IS a noticeable all-round improvement. First off, I was able to push the choke in quicker after setting off, no engine "hunting"; the car is definitely smoother, it pulls better and tickover is smoother too. Well worth doing and thankyou all once again for the advice. The other point to make is about "The Green Spark Plug Company ", absolutely brilliant to deal with, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them, outstanding service!

    Spark plugs

Spot on, thankyou Iain, Nigel and all, for your replies! It will be interesting to see how this works out, it's certainly worth a try. Derek.

    Spark plugs

P.s. scrapman, do you regap them or just fit them as they are, please? They look as though regapping would be tricky!

    Spark plugs

Thankyou one and all for all the advice, very much appreciated! The gspark website is fantastic, I've ordered a set of W7DTC's to try and I've finally found a supplier for an oddball size for a 2-stroke strimmer belonging to 'Er indoors. (She bought it at B+Q but surprisingly they don't stock any spares.) Derek.

    Spark plugs

Very interesting thread this and they do look interesting but I can't decide whether to go for the R type or not... 🤔 Derek

    Spark plugs

Nigel/Nick, I have been considering these for a while but the listings on ebay are a tad confusing, suitability, pricing etc. Without trying to put you on the spot, do you have a supplier you can recommend please? I would probably prefer the Bosch although NGK are sound. Thankyou! Derek.

    Spark plugs

Would you recommend these for a Spitfire 1500, Nigel? Derek.
  15. You've started summat here, Badwolf!
  16. Meet Chloe, our rescue cat. The lower photo is the one Cat's Protection used to find her a home. Now 3 years old, lovely cat, growls at the postman though...

    Maxxis Tyres

I've used Maxxis tyres on 3 cars of mine and 2 belonging to 'er indoors now and haven't had any problems at all. Grip, noise, balance and wear rates are excellent. There's also a free puncture repair deal with them too. I do enjoy, err, spirited driving...
  18. Hello, I've just checked the handbook and it says to turn the knob clockwise to zero the mileometer, I'm sure I've seen a label or whatever though that says only to turn it that way, my apologies if I've got it wrong! Derek.
  19. Off the top of my head, I'm sure there's a n instruction somewhere in the handbook (?) that it must only be rotated in one direction to avoid damage to the speedo...

    Aldi GPS tracker

Hello and thankyou for your thoughts on this. Pete, you're absolutely right about stopping the car getting nicked in the first place. Ang and Paul, yeh I suspect it won't make a difference to the insurance premium and yes, apparently it has a sim card with it. Why I was attracted to it, (apart from being a gadget in a box) they do say it is subscription free. I did a spell on a jury service a couple of years ago and met a guy who had a business where his vans had trackers fitted. He showed me his laptop one lunchtime, 2 of his vans were doing 100mph on the motorway, he phoned them up and gave them a ticking off there and then. It was the first time I'd seen it in use, very impressive. They wouldn't be the GPS's from aldi though...
  21. Evening all, aldi have GPS trackers in at £39.99, has anyone used one of these and do insurance companies actually recognise them as beneficial and give a reduction in premiums? As always, any comments would be welcome. Derek.
  22. Cheers Martyn, hope you -and all- have a lovely Christmas!
  23. Just to clarify a point: Aldi battery charger: page 22 in the instruction book states: " If the battery that you wish to charge is connected in the vehicle, first disconnect the vehicle's negative terminal connection cable (black) from the battery's negative terminal before the charging or trickle charging process. " The ctek is safe to connect to the vehicle as it is without causing damage to the alternator or whatever.
  24. I've had a Ctek for 13+ years now and swear by it, wouldn't be without it. I was advised when I bought it to make sure that the surface it was sitting on allows it to keep cool as they don't take kindly to overheating, mine rests on the windscreen wiper blade and has never been a problem. I have the dedicated "traffic light" connector hard-wired to the battery, more outlay but less of a faff connecting. The BIG advantage with the ctek is,of course, you don't have to disconnect the battery from the car. I also have the aldi charger, fantastic value but my understanding is that you must disconnect, correct me if I'm wrong... A sound investment, money well spent.
  25. She was brilliant in the BBC series The Detectorists, as the dissatisfied mother-in-law... A very highly talented actress indeed. Emma Peel was the original sex bomb, she certainly kept John Steed in order. Very sad to see her go, God Bless.
