  1. Hi Roger Engine purchased second hand, was told the engine was good but no idea on history. John Bonnet knows the guy I purchased from and said he was a good source and reliable. Mike Papworth also knows him Tried a compression test but failed, however I know now the head leaks so now not surprised Please come back on the oil pump, that's my next removal Thx Aidan
  2. I think that's just the brake cleaner that's not wiped off and has dried again This was just an initial clean Aidan
  3. Roger I think that's a cleaner smudge - I have put my fingers all around and the only possible issue I can feel is a ring around the top of no 6 (the top pic) So more questions and please remember I'm a novice at this What do I need to do to remove the pump? Taken the feed tube off but not made any difference to the pump itself

    Payen

    Thx Nigel Aidan
  5. Head has had first stage clean ups - all but no 6 now have no lip to the touch and no 6 u can't get a finger nail in. Pistons are a little pitted on top Also noticed that at least some of the pistons held the brake cleaner in the chamber

    Payen

I was looking at fleabay to buy but I need a full set so maybe it's worth me giving Mr Witor a call then. It would be good to source the whole set together I think Aidan
  7. Hi Pete How much can be bored out before you need to change pistons? And in terms of new rings what price would I be looking at? I found an engineering firm locally who could do a re-bore for under 200 quid Aidan

    Payen

Thanks It is as I thought (sigh of relief 🙂) I definitely have the flat one! Aidan

    Payen

Also here goes ano dumb question What's the difference between recessed and Flat ? Can someone show both in a picture? ITs one of those "I think i know" but actually I'm not 100% sure !! Aidan

Hi Colin I got this back from him which may clarify Yes have a really good gasket for flat top blocks. Made by Ajusa was made to replace the copper Asbestos Mk I Gasket. Foetunately they made the stud holes larger so can fit on Mk II engine blocks. I drill a couple of extra water holes as these gaskets do not have the curved water way hole front & rear Not sure if it all makes sense but as my engine is not recessed I think the Payen may well be fine Aidan

Hi Opinions please Can anyone confirm or rubbish the attached? https://m.facebook.com/groups/116689651680167/permalink/3748877951794634/ Thanks Aidan
  12. https://m.facebook.com/groups/116689651680167/permalink/3748877951794634/ This is the article not sure if it's true - your thoughts??
  13. Nearly sorted out the head refurb, thanks Colin / Johny They did say to get a Payen gasket, now I know there's been chatter on the new ones not being good, so can anyone tell me where to go to get nos, and which one? Thought it was GEG179 but now I'm not sure OR Am I completely wrong on this? Thanks Aidan
  14. What's best to use to clean? - I'd also like to clean the top of the pistons, but again with what? I will take a pic of the inside of the bearing shell and add it on here Thanks Aidan
  15. Cheers Adrian Better late than never! Back to a permanent role @ work so can look forward to a stable income - even a holiday in 2021 as long as the dreaded covid is back under control!! Aidan will also have a mk2 2000 engine spare at the end! Might repeat the exercise and sell off although apart from some oil use it's not in bad condition
  16. HAHA no, no way near that far! It would be nice to end up with an engine that does not loose oil, and runs as cleanly as possible for a triumph. Not looking for more power, just smooth reliability - a true GT car Aidan
  17. Clive, so in other words, if it needs a re-bore then really they will need the pistons crank & bearings. That doesn't leave much behind! Guess only time will tell Aidan
  18. Can the pistons just be unbolted from the crank and pushed out? Is there anything I need to keep numbered and orientated so they go back in the exact same way??? Aidan
  19. I can tell you what I have found so far will add pictures tomorrow. The piston bores are like a babies bum smooth with no marks. Can't be said for the top few mm though, all of them are not like the rest, quite scratchy but will add pictures Piston heads are as black as soot, and all look the same A couple of pics from below Aidan
  20. So if I can get the head sorted at reasonable cost, then this may revert to DIY😁😁😁 What's next?? Block I guess Advice on how far I should strip down please and cleaning? Phosphoric acid bath??? Step by step please!!! Aidan
  21. Just the exhaust valve seats although I'm not sure of the condition of the valves not having taken then out (yet!) Aidan
  22. Hi Pete Cheapest quote for this was £450 inc vat Didn't discuss shipping Aidan
