I can tell you what I have found so far will add pictures tomorrow. The piston bores are like a babies bum smooth with no marks. Can't be said for the top few mm though, all of them are not like the rest, quite scratchy but will add pictures Piston heads are as black as soot, and all look the same A couple of pics from below Aidan

So if I can get the head sorted at reasonable cost, then this may revert to DIY😁😁😁 What's next?? Block I guess Advice on how far I should strip down please and cleaning? Phosphoric acid bath??? Step by step please!!! Aidan

I'd love to, but could do with a step by step guide, preferably for the six pot. I do mean a step by step! As in what tools to use (buy or borrow) to even how to clean up the head and block which all have circa 50 years of crap on and in them I would like to have an unleaded head, just for convenience if nothing else Aidan

Just to add that I would love to learn! Not that someone like this exists, but would love to learn how to rebuild the engine with someone, and would obviously pay for it. Guess it's just a pipe dream! Aidan

Yes i think it would be daft not to convert to unleaded What are you getting quotes for, or, rather, having difficulty getting quotes for? Your local TSSC Area GRoup will know who to do to in your manor. I got no response from some, and another was a crazy price nearly 4k! Original plan was to do it myself but no experience so reverting to getting it done Thought I had a good starting point with a mk2 vitesse engine? Aidan

So I know the valves need a re-grind, they don't hold spirit (didn't want to use petrol) Trying to get quotes doesn't seem as easy as I thought it would be! Some are totally daft and obviously don't want the work. Some are just too far away and want to fit and run the engine in the car. Mr Searle may be my only choice! Aidan

Would you say it's the kind of state you'd expect or it's very tired?? Basically any thoughts on condition ? Someone said it was an oil burner! Aidan

After cleaning out my sump I have found the the two bolts at the front do not tighten. I guess some where in the engines history they have been over tightened So the questions are: - Can I helicoil them or do I have to re-tap? What size on either option? Thanks Aidan

That's not a problem, it's not the engine in the car but a mk2 vitesse I purchased a while ago. Now starting to look at it

Always had fun with finding the right plugs due to insulation contamination. Have recently purchased some OEM n9-y champions for next year I'm hoping that these will last longer than 12 months!! Aidan

I'm also one for the tube and jam jar. I upgraded mine with a one way valve two thirds the way down the tube - a couple of quid off fleabay, and can do it without annoying the wife!! Aidan

Hi all I noticed that intermittently my reversing lights are illuminated even when the ignition isn't on. (In fact I walked in to the garage and noticed they were lit) Also when jacking the offside front wheel the horn goes off!! Don't know if the two things are related but any ideas on where the issue(s) might be? Aidan

What does the heratige certificate actuly give you? I was wondering as the DVLA doesn't have the early history of my car. Apparently it was held in local council offices. It was supposed to all be sent to the DVLA when it was centralised.... but as you might expect, it was completely c***d up! Aidan
