  1. plus if they do fall out (and they do) the chances of recovering the block are not that great and if the endfloat is enough to effect the clutch they may already have fallen out. My first experience of this was spending ages trying to get the clutch to work, just as Jagnut is here (I hope that I am wrong by the way)
  2. Have you checked the crank end float? as that can make you need to pump the clutch to push the crank forward, then next press it works, happened to me many years ago spent ages trying to bleed the clutch, before I finally found the culprit (no internet help back then!)
  3. Apart from the late 1500, all spitfires, heralds gt6 etc. have the same column the only real variation is whether they have a steering lock, which was standard on mk4-1500 spitfire and certainly GT6 MK3 but a rarely fitted option to earlier spits.
  4. There is no such thing as original belts the cars left the factory with just the floor mounts the rest was almost certainly fitted later. I also recommend quickfitsbs.com, they will supply new or reweb existing
  5. When riveting you will need something to space the head of the rivet inthe popper recess or it will not tighten. I use an old rivet head0
  6. I have not had the little hooks at the front for 30 years, they were there for a bit e tra security ie to stop someone taking the front of the hood off from outside, but they can still take the back off so pretty pointless
  7. One thing that I would check just in case is your crankshaft end float as problems here can feel like a clutch issue. Try to move the front engine pulley back and forward, there should be 4 to 8 thousands of an inch but in a worst case where the thrust washers have fallen out it can move 4mm or more which stops the clutch working properly
  8. If it is not correct then that should be detailed at the point of sale, if not then it is not fit for purpose. If we are told it is different but may work, then ok but this is sold as the correct part which it is not and if we just shrug our shoulders and accept it they will continue to take our money for sub standard parts. It is up to us to complain with threat of small claims if needed.
  9. The correct bearing is being made as it is in the 3 part kits,or at least it was last time that I purchased 1.
  10. No they are selling it as a release bearing for a spitfire with diaphragm clutch which it is clearly not so it is not fit for purpose. If we simply say oh well, this is the service level that we will get.
  11. For lots of great docs Inc a pdf of workshop manual search vitesse Steve. Radiator change was before mk2 came out due to over cooling issues
  12. Do send the bearing back for refund as it is not as described. If we don't we will keep being sold shoddy parts
  13. It is as people have said a reinforcing frame. It is standard but would normally be body coloured.
  14. They will have used various manufacturers in the day, SKF was just the one I have in a Borg and Beck box. The one I linked to earlier is still there at Spitbitz near wokingham for 8.99 + p&p (ebay). Plus if you look you can see cct70 covered up
  15. Colin the issue is the suppliers are not supplying the original grb207, they are supplying a similar bearing that is thinner and flatter but will fit the carrier, RTB has ordered the correct bearing
  16. I believe that Canley classics replace the not so good parts in the usual kit with better parts, but it is a very common job, the hardest part is getting the tunnel out and back in https://www.canleyclassics.com/?product=gear-change-bush-kit I wouldn't worry that they say out of stock as I believe that they put the kit together to order https://rimmerbros.com/Item--i-519770
  17. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/353995366864?hash=item526bc4a1d0:g:FeAAAOSwQNZiTaJf Quick search bring up this at a pretty good price and QH were high quality (though grease may be dry)
  18. it would be cheaper to buy a classic clutch kit (canleys £64.31) which had the correct bearing when I bought one years ago, I found that the cover a bit unsmooth in it's action so have NOS now but still using the release bearing. They must be available as they are in the clutch kits just not separately
  19. just had a bit of a delve, they are supplying a koyo rtc385L1 from their photo which has a depth of 16.4mm. I have an old stock Borg and Beck which is an SKF 415441 and has a depth of 19.6. Not sure how significant 3.2mm is here, but they are simply supplying something close-ish, not the correct bearing.
  20. I have just noted that I mentioned this issue back in September. I believe that the bearing supplied will throw the geometry out and probably not enough people are buying just the release bearing, as must buy a 3 piece kit for them not to have taken note or they don't care.
  21. It should be identical to the spitfire but when I bought a new one a few years back although supplied as correct it was not the same it was a good few millimetres shallower and flatter on top, returned as not fit for purpose. If refitting the old one just make sure that the bearings are smooth
  22. The bellhousings are basically the same, just a minor drilling for the selector arm on the 1500 and maybe the centre seal is a rubber seal rather than scroll but nothing that would affect the clutch operation. The actuating mechanism is the same as well, assuming that everything on the OD gearbox was correct. Did you put a new release bearing on as some new ones being supplied are too shallow.
  23. I have never seen a pushrod with the thicker part and the part number was always 109182 so all should be the same (that one looks like a bit has been added but should still work)
  24. The herald and spitfire 1200/1300 diaphragm clutches were identical. There will be differences in the cover but that will be due to manufacturer not the spec ie QH versus Borg and Beck. The only difference that you have is a driven plate with fine splines
