Looks interesting, and only a couple of miles from me too.

I think that GT6 may have been at the recent H&H Duxford auction.

Hi Matthew, good luck with the Spitfire project !

Hi Mikey, welcome to the forum from another Mk3 owner.

Hi and welcome ! You certainly appear to have found a beauty there.

Ah ! So that explains why I had to scrabble around for my membership number before I could log in.

i would look for a local rad repaier and get a firm quote for a recore and possibly a replaced header
just had a herald done locally for £120
I had my spare radiator refurbished by Kempston Radiators for close to that price.

I had a similar idea of using a Jubilee clip and a paint free area on the steering shaft to locate the earth strap with the other end on the accessible lower steering u/j clamp.

... and in a photo of the crank web clearly shown in the casting/forging 308034 too.

I think from the last picture the stencil says 17684. What that means, if anything, I don’t know.

Across the left hand end of the crate lid - 308034

The advertiser's description appears rather vague except for the part number which would definitely make it a 2.0 litre crank rather than a 2.5. litre crank. The crate lid has the part number showing on the top line so long as the crate and crank belong together.

If intermittent horn, then check that the 'earth strap' wire is in place on the steering column 'universal joint'. Mine played up for a while until I realised this was missing. Made up a new one, and problem solved. It basically makes a good electrical connection between the two parts of the steering column.
Graham
Thanks Graham, I think that is my problem. How do you access the upper part of the universal joint to fit the earth strap as mine is totally hidden away ?
I could not understand why the horn works perfectly when the car is parked but not when driving, until I saw a suggestion that the steering lock being "On" provides an earth.

Dismantled the steering wheel horn push, spring loaded brush and eventually removed the steering wheel and boss complete to find out why my horn is silent. Should the spring loaded brush in it's little tube be firmly located in some way ? Mine is like a pr*ck in a bucket as the hole in the boss where the brush goes through to slide on the slip ring appears much too large, allowing the brush assembly to waggle about. The plastic horn push assembly is just a push fit in the boss with no positive location either so making contact with the brush is a bit hit or miss.
I do have an earth through the steering shaft but it appears to be intermittent and checking with a multimeter reads only 7 or 8 volts with a fully charged battery.
Comments and suggestions will be much appreciated.

Do you know what thermostat you have?
Sorry Maria, not had to look at the thermostat yet so unsure what one it is. The engine gets up to heat quickly but then holds nicely at midpoint on the temp gauge even in current high temperatures. The coolant is crystal clear antifreeze blue with no trace of rust or sediment and the radiator is in good condition.

I am happily using a 7lb radiator cap on my Mk3 engine without any problems. It appears to be the only Mk3 not to suffer from overheating in hot weather.
As Pete says, I would not bother with the 13lb cap.

I have had a CTEK 3.8S for several years and it keeps my GT6 battery in top condition for starting the car after long periods of hibernation. I might be talking to Pete about his surplus stock of chargers as we now have 3 out of 4 family cars in hibernation because of Covid. 😉
