The twin choke down draft Weber that Colin has would be a worthwhile fit. They are a great carb it's like having a twin carb set up when you need it and a single when you don't. Even putting a 1500 in is reversable.

Hi Tony,
As I don't have any engine cleaner to hand I flushed it through with the same oil as I refilled the diff with: EP90.
Also, this way, I'm not risking mixing the oil with any cleaning fluids.
As to time to refill, I was impressed! 😃
It only took as long as it took me to make a sandwich and eat it.
To be fair, this may have been because, for refilling, I removed the (possibly flow restricting) piece of brake pipe, that I had pushed into the end of the suction pipe (as recommended above), to aid my accessing as far into the diff as possible to remove the old oil.
By the time I'd finished my sandwich it was flooding back out. Fortunately I suspect it looked worse than it was, as the level indicated on the side of the plastic EP90 container (originally 5 litres) showed that I had probably used not much in excess of the 0.70 litres capacity indicated in the manual.
Anyway I removed the filling pipe and the backflow increased slightly, so I got the plug back in and screwed down tight quickly.
I would now thoroughly recommend this little suction pump.
Best wishes,
Mike.
Already on my shopping list Mike, always good know when something works well.

I don't think it would be worthwhile Jon, not without a lot more work on the engine. You will have a bigger fuel bill for a start and not a lot of extra grunt. Just my opinion others might think different.

Just suck a bit of engine cleaner or a bit through it Mike to clean it. It will work to refill it but will take just as long. Much much longer if you use ep140 oil as i did....

I have had HI-Fly on a modern and they were far superior to the Continental Contact crap that were on the car. Never had any problems, but i do drive to the conditions. Getting to old now for excess speed and sideways around corners sadly Though i did rather enjoy it my day
Sorry Cliff, Falken do have a good reputation a friend has them on his Stag.

Tony - Would 8mm copper microbore central heating tube work. I have a length somewhere left over from making the main fuel pipe? Is it an idea to cut the end at an angle to stop it sucking against the bottom of the diff. My oil was drained a couple of years ago but not by choice as the front oil seal had died. I only found out when I jacked up the back end. The garage stank of hypoid for weeks. I blamed next door's cat 🐱
It would actually BW i didn't have any to hand at the time, you will bending it bit by bit you will get it the right shape. I had the same problem with 1/4 it just catches eveywhere so a few bends and it works, mine is an odd shape but it goes right down to the bottom.

BKF, is used with good effect on tarnished "Stainless" steel too. Citric Acid Monohydrate, Sodium Carbonate and Oxalic Acid. It is good at removing "Rust" stains, left behind from using wire wool products, from stainless steel.
It looks for all the world like the old fashioned "Vim" if anyone remembers that?.
Pete
I paid a bit extra Pete and got the liquid stuff, Oxalic acid was what i was looking for. Now "Vim" i remember it well with Ajax. Both made sneeze and my little t##t of a brother made sure there was some on my pillow if i upset him....

Not on my Vitesse but on the modern. The exterior chrome plated plastic is tarnished and grimy, I've tried white vinegar and the stuff in the BMW bag of goodies. Both no good. How about Bar Keepers Friend?
Any suggestions please as I'm getting it in the ear from the wife!
Iain
Bar keepers friend is Great Iain, i use it once a year, there is a chemical in it that is like Kurust (can't remember what it is though) and use a polish. I stay away from metal polish though.

There are some shoulder washers that may do the job. They are usually used on exhaust straps.

A bit of spare brake pipe then.
Best wishes,
Mike.
I used fuel pipe Mike 1/4 it just makes it drain a bit faster, but i was using a hand pump. Brake pipe will do the job though.

Something like a windscreen washer tube?
Best wishes,

If you use metal tube Mike you can hear it when it bottom's in the casing and it goes where you want it once you have the right bend.

Hi Mike, I have one of the suction pumps but it's difficult (no pun intended) to get to the bottom of the diff. So i made this up with a piece of 1/4 metal fuel pipe a primer bulb (fleabay £5) and rubber fuel hose. It got everything out of the diff and i also washed it around with a bit of parrafin. I refilled mine (Dolomite) with ep140's since then you can't hear the slight whine and the oil leaks have stopped. I used the suction pump to refill it.

hmmm unfortunately doesnt look like those have any anti drain filter so definitely got to be as vertical as possible....
You are right Johny they don't. They are just a standard filter as is the GFE173. I think Paul H is getting away from anti drain valves Though after his last problem.

Sounds like a master cylinder problem Alan? I'm never a fan of fitting repair kits to the braking system. You could try re-fitting the old rubbers see if makes any difference?

well the lightening of the input from 3 shreaded wheat to only one must impart more loads downstream as you can physically whip the car around with more venum so loads at the suspension and steering must go up
