Nothing has changed on my pc apart from the rockets and now the posh arm bands. But i am running good old windows XP The only thing that gets updated is my NOD32 AV.

It can also be caused by turning the engine off to quick when you come to a stop, the rev's wont have died down and gives it the fast tickover problem as Pete mentions.

I would put a straight edge along the manifold and head Paula, either that or were the nut's/bolts not tight? The new gasket looks good quality though. I would put on dry around exhaust parts, small amount of blue hylomar around the inlets. Love the front seats.

That alternator is the old 15acr you can fit the 17acr lucas type and the thick brown wire goes to the large terminal and the small wire (warning light) goes to the small terminal. Just chop the plugs off and fit new terminals. I did the very same on my Dolomite last year.

Lindsay Porter's book also says: 'ensure their oil grooves face outwards'. To me, 'outwards' means away from the crank so the copper sides will be facing front and rear, not both facing each other in the inner sides. I've just fitted mine in the opposite direction to the diagram above, silver side to the moving crank. I can see a lot of headscratching coming on... thankfully I have a spare engine I can check, but only as a last resort...
Sorry Colin, yes the silver side is the bearing side so should face the crank..... I thought the side with the grooves was the bearing side...

I would put them in as above Colin? Copper with back to the non moving item.

That brand of locally-made is supposedly supplied to HM the Q. I think she sent it back, I could see her teeth marks in it.

So, if the alternator is obstructing no.1 plug, presumably fitting a longer fan belt would allow it to rotate further, out of the way. I wonder if there exists somewhere a database of fan belts, 10 mm X ...well, more than 1088 mm?? Same thing for the alternator pulley, I suppose. I need to try a (?)bigger pulley. Are they universal fit but different diameter? Are pulley belt widths all the same? So many questions, so little time. What's the answer to the question of the universe ---- 42, of course.
Just a quick search on fleabay came up with this https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/254672261461?hash=item3b4ba65155:g:ih8AAOSw2GdfJHf4 Just keep putting various size's in and they will come up. I just put in 1092 x 10 fanbelt. they are all cheap enough.

Hi Chaps
Took your advice this evening drove to shell for some 99Ron V power. Had 1/4 of a tank of old fuel left put £45 of fresh in. Had trouble from the very start getting going and just got in from 2 1/2 hrs, 1/2 mile from the garage broken down. Very lumpy, uneven running and absolutely no pulling power, could not move as on a slight upward incline which seems to make it worse so not sure about going to a car show this weekend, or indeed anywhere at the moment.
Maybe you can help with a bit more diagnostics....basically I was able to get home after waiting endlessly for the RAC who didn't arrive by which time it had cooled down and ran much better, but still as it got hotter (the temperature was normal) I could feel it starting to slip away again. Any ideas or do I admit defeat and take it to the garage?
Cheers
Adrian
Sounds very much like a blocked fuel filter Adrian? I had the same on a Wolseley once it took ages to sort out as someone had put two filters on it and the one i could see looked clean.

Personally Dave i wouldn't put a pressure washer anywhere near my cars, on top or underneath. Just my take on it. Other's might have different opinions.

Not a partially blocked fuel filter by any chance Pat?

Fuel getting to carbs, plugs are sparking, static timing looks right but it wont start - not even a cough

Hi Alastair,
I had the very same thing on my 2500S, it would even fire and tickover, touch the throttle and it stopped. Eventually i changed the condensor...... started and ran perfectly. The previous weekend i had done close on 200 miles in it without missing a beat. Never had that sort of fault ever...
