Most "fag lighters" use a 25 amp in line fuse BW . When i smoked i prefered a permanent live. The socket on my modern is only ignition fed pita if i want to plug anything in......

When I rebuilt the Spitfire I sprayed it with cellulose paint. (Did it myself in garage so didn't want to use 2 pack for HSE reasons. ) I'm now finding that water drops are leaving a mark. It's almost as if the water is dissolving the paint as they are almost impossible to polish out. I guess I should have re-waxed more often but has anyone else notice this effect with modern celly ?
It's mainly caused by modern polish Pete, it has a product called "naptha" in it. You can stop it by stripping the wax polish off with white spirit or turps (test a small area first) then buff with Farecla fine compound the use a traditional Hard wax and should stop it happening. I had the same problem with a blue woleseley. It's either that or dry the car before the sun is on the rain beads.

.....if you are using a roller and tray, put the lot into a bin liner and tie up the end. That works a treat too.
Cling film the bottom of the tray BW saves having clean the tray out, don't use cheap cling film though Shall we talk about wallpapering now???

Thanks Tony. The link you posted is now dead but I have found others, probably all the same quality from the same oriental manufacturer somewhere. I will get one on my next fleabay order. Much appreciated. By the way, the current filter is now full of beautifully clean petrol. I couldn't see it well in the garage lighting but after taking her outside for a wash (yes - stands back in amazement - Lady BW in recovery after the shock!!) I could see the level clearly so for the moment all is well.
I am now dealing with the footwell panels after cleaning up the silicone brake fluid. Found some bare metal and surface rust under the carpet. Not bad after 30 odd years. Now treating it with Bilthamber Hydrate80 and will then give it a topcoat of old Hammerite. Only got half a litre of the old, good stuff left, but taking care of it for bits of touch up. Once its dry I intend to put a layer of silentcoat over the paint and replace the carpet. Then I might actually get around to taking the photos for the agreed value and then doing something more productive on the hard-top.
Hi BW when i posted the link it was still live.... Never mind the others are pretty much the same but some don't have the none return valve.

Do these ceramic products work ? If so which products are recommended.
Do they give some protection against stone chipsPaul
The real one's are supposed to work Paul, but have to be applied by a trained professional at a cost of around £600...... I have seen a car (modern) that has been done and it never seems to get dirty, nothing sticks to it... Would i pay £600? not a chance.

Tony - Thanks for that. I notice that the pump bulb is rubber. Will that cause any problems with ethanol deterioration?
To be quite honest i thought myself BW, but i have had one on my Dolly for about three years now without problem and i did fit it before one those plastic filters to see. Up to now no problem. They are used for petrol to outboard motors and have been for years. It has certainly solved my problem

Pete, far be it from me to tell you how to spend your money, on shall we say your other hobbies, e.g. cross dressing, but maybe fewer dresses for the weekend and a new welding helmet would be money well spent!
Or have I misunderstood you?
I don’t get overtime either, but at least I’ve had a year of working from home, and not paying exorbitant sums for the ‘privilege’ of commuting into central London.
Karl
I think you have been spending to much time on the "other sites" mentioned on the forum Karl Don't worry Pete, Karl is excited about having a new Helmet......

That is a set up for sure, it's not even black.... I have seen blocked Vauxhall engines many times when people havn't used the right oil and it comes out in black bit's. I have also had the same on a mk3 cvh escort. The manual said 18000 miles for a service. 9 yrs before service and 4.5k miles absolutely solid with black gunge. That jelly is too clean.

Maybe the front subframe as they tend to rot at the front. As Colin says you need to view it. I have an 1850 auto that has never been welded, but i saw some right dogs before i found it. Be very wary about buying it without seeing it as you will have no comeback and repair panels are scarce. They are great cars though.

If i had a jack rated at 50 tons, i wouldn't go under my car without stands. Pressure testing is done for safety, i once saw a video of an engine boiler blowing up..... Terrible.

Have a look at RC car spares Paul, i'm sure i have seen something like when i used to build them. If you have a model shop nearby, they might be able to help?

Tony - That looks just like the 'Master Mechanic' jack that I got 30 years ago and is still giving great service with no problems.
I could well be BW, it's exactly the same as mine a genuine Webber.

Hi Pete, this is the same jack that i own, might be to far away from you? It is a bargain. I know folk say don't by secondhand but you can still get the parts should anything go wrong, It is easy enough to lift into a car boot, but wouldn't like to carry it far

I've been advised that what sounds like a thrust bearing whir, with no foot on the pedal, is probably a layshaft bearing when the thrust bearing is brand new and the clutch is correctly adjusted.
Sounds more like the gears sloshing about in the oil Pete.

As Clive has said Pete, the Weber jacks are brilliant mine is now over 40yrs old and still works perfectly considering 20yrs of professional use. Expensive yes, poor quality no. Worth every penny.

I have always hated the damn things, don't know why. I do appreciate the time and effort the VW people put into their vehicles though, long may they carry on Sadly not for me as they don't do an automatic.

You can get the right stuff Johnny https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/35mm-1-3-8-ID-40m-OD-Flexi-Pipe-Tube-1-metre-Exhaust-Flexible-Excellent-Quality/274263527383?epid=2205266000&hash=item3fdb614fd7:g:YVoAAOxyqUpQ8B0e
But look at the price, the pond hose went on my dolly with no problem, just warmed up as you say.
