You see them discarded everywhere but I've only once seen someone actually riding one...

Around here yes as if the residents can't get their take away food and gallons of bottled water delivered they use the bikes/scooters. I see a lot mortally wounded Limes thrown on the pavement with broken chains, flat tyres, slashed tyres (not me judge).

Where a trial rental scheme is running, it's legal to use a rental e-scooter on a public road or cycle lane, provided you have the correct licence and follow road traffic regulations. (The Met; Police).

True but not ridden on the pedestrian pavement. We have two companies selling legal pay for hire here, Boris bikes and Lime. The Boris bikes have to go back to their docking station but the Lime bikes can be dumped anywhere. Consequently we have discarded Lime bikes (they hire scooters as well) littered on pavements. It's these Lime bikes that are bloody annoying as hirers seem to like stranding them in the middle of pavements. With the appalling standard of driving here (many cars pass with more than a whif of cannabis) I wouldn't feel very safe on a bike and definitely not a more unstable scooter.

I've never seen an illegal scooter stopped by the police.

they got a good talking too

My wife's banned me from verbally engaging with the many idiots on mainly electric bikes and scooters on our pedestrian pavements. They are illegal and I tell them so but on one occasion a guy stopped and squared up to me and could have got nasty. With the amount of knives about I've learnt to hold my tongue and inwardly seethe!

  4. I hate these scooters. It looks like a legal hire one? If not he's illegally riding on a public highway. I've never seen a scooter hand signal but then with small wheels and instability it's probably dangerous to do so! I've noticed around here very few illegal scooters but masses of electric bike hires littered on pavements. I have been know to move them and inadvertently they have fallen over😂. Well they're heavy and I'm not getting any younger.....

  5. Mick, I have mentioned a few times that I think your mixture is too lean. Enrich the mixture by half a turn, it may need more, and try again. Don't go crazy or it can get too rich. This is classic lean mixture symptoms.

40% Inheritance tax too. (Here comes the thread drift..!)

I have my fingers crossed for Hunts autumn statement. IHT is in my view a terrible tax on family assets and only benefits the government and overpriced tax accountants.

Do not allow the disease to escape from the prostate if at all possible

That's the big fear and always at the back of my mind. Consultant said I had three choices, active surveillance, radio therapy or removal. He recommended the former but if my psa starts to move the bloody things coming out. My dad had prostate cancer which travelled so he had his prostate and bladder removed but it had already spread.

I can't ignore it any longer but can't get a GP to sign the forms to authorise me to inform the Insurance Company that I need treatment

I registered with a private GP who then organised everything. My NHS GP was informed of treatments by my private consultant. It worked fine. My NHS GP didn't have a problem and as my consultant has more egg on his cap he just logged the information and followed instructions.

PSA has risen from 0.04 to 0.09. That worries me even though anything below 2.0 is not considered a problem.

Had my 6 monthly test result at 3.93 which is down from my average of around 4.5-5.0. On the NHS app the result said normal which for 60-70 year old it is as 4 and under is normal. However as per my biopsy I know I have a very small area of cancer hence the 6 month "active supervision" tests. Value goes up to I think 5 for more mature ages... Your value is very good but as my consultant said its when the number rises and how quickly that you need to watch.

Keep posting it's good therapy to talk.

    Really?

    Yes.

My son in his late 30s goes to McD for breakfast. What I saw yesterday (I went back to my old factory to mod radiator brackets) was the older guys brought their home made lunch sandwiches and the younger one's waited for the sandwich truck. It was the same when I was there 8 years ago.

  11. Update, I took 8mm off the rad bracket which effectively lowered the rad by that amount and the cap doesn't seem to touch😁. I'm waiting for some more antifreeze today, Comma G48, and I'll start up and see where the leaks are. Modifying the bracket was by far the easiest route for me but I still have to set the bonnet 🤞

Next job is fitting the clutch slave cylinder remote bleed hose.

  12. Welcome to the forum! Lots of good advice and never feel to ashamed to ask. I fitted Pertronix ignition to my Vitesse and it was an improvement. For me this is a must have. Mintex for brake pads. As to electrics if you don't have one your best friend is a multimeter! In 5 years I've learnt a huge amount from this forum but beware we do love to wander off piste..... The joke section is great.

  13. Lots of heat sink putty available to limit heat distortion. The price of gas is expensive now. I had three CO2 lasers that gobbled up pure nitrogen as a shield gas and had a cryocell for liquid nitrogen to reduce costs. I looked at compressed (clean) air (76% nitrogen) as was astonished at the price! The oxygen did oxidise the edge so pure nitrogen was best. For Mig welding we used Argon 20.

  14. No it's not bacon frying, it should be an even electrical arcing sound however on old contaminated metal it will cough n splutter. I've seen many a nice looking scalloped fillet weld break when tested due to lack of penetration into parent metal. Do some trial welds then try and break the joint. Tack weld everything first. IMHO gas welding thin gauge metal is best but is much more difficult.

Any views, 6mm, 8mm or 9mm welding wire for body panels?

0.6mm should be fine but if you can only get 0.8mm that's OK. As everyone has said its practice. I could hear a good weld without having to look. If its thicker material or plate always chamfer ends never butt weld as its weaker. With old sheet steel it will be contaminated so expect a lot of splatter or even melt the edges.

you may find at 500idle  the idle mixture is just set too lean

I still maintain this was primarily a mixture problem. Before going down any more dark alleys try raising the needle half a turn to richen the mixture and idle at 800rpm. Don't play with ignition and take for a spin. If its better adjust ignition to get optimum setting.

This way will tell if the original problem was a timing or mixture.

  17. We make cottage pie for the two of us from best lean mince and with trimmings, electricity it cost £3 total and that's being generous. If we batch cooked it would be even cheaper. There are many filling nutritious dishes but the UK is the box food capital of Europe. One couple whinging about the cost of their mortgage were paying over £600pm for their car?!?! It's life's choices that often causes money problems.

I was looking round Emsworth/Hayling area last Monday with a view to downsize.

We thought we would take a tour of the south coast to hone the list. Folkestone seems to be on the up but haven't been there for decades. For the wife and I the power of the sea is mesmerising......providing I'm not on it in a small boat!

One issue that always comes up, every time there is flooding, is WHY do planners allow building on KNOWN flood plains?. Is it "brown envelopes"?.

If you can find a planner who isn't at his/her villa in Spain please ask!

If you want crazy planning come to Tower Hamlets.
