    'anchor away'.

I started something there😂. I believe, "Anchors Away" is the primary March of the US Naval Service?

I think you're correct. Dick where are you?

  2. After two pages I think I've finally burned port and starboard into my brain. We are on the port side in April. I'll try nautical directions on my wife, I'm sure she'll have her own version of 'anchor away'.

When you get to the bit that says: "the sensor is located behind the passenger side dashboard and requires the removal of the lower dashboard and side trims" and you do all that only to find it's actually on the driver's side in UK cars, it can mean a lot of blue air.

Last week helped a neighbour who's battery was dead and couldn't open the bonnet as it was a electrically operated. Googled where to hook up my Vitesse battery to release the bonnet only to find the connection on the other side. I had watched an American lhd video!

  7. Useless fact, dimensionally the centre of the car is (or was in my day) the centre in X, Y, Z of the front cross member.

Getting back to the high seas the wife and I love ocean cruises but choosing port or starboard side cabin is always a toss up. Invariably we get it wrong so when docked instead of a nice bay or town view the mornings start thus. First thought I knew that final drink last night wasn't a good idea then open the curtains in Full Monty mode and my wife says good view? Normally I reply oh yes dockside silos again the Captain has it in for us!

  8. In Muscat Oman around 20 years ago when the British Forces arrived to sell the Omani some wizz bangs and airplanes. At the hotel nightclub talking to a very drunk marine and his slightly less drunk friends who's conversation consisted of I hate the Navy when the MPs stroll in. The pissed marines man mountain friends linked arms with him and held him up and said keep talking to us. The MPs gave us a knowing look and walked on. It gave me a new meaning the comrades in arms! The RN officers staying in our hotel were very polite but could they drink.

    A great few alcoholic days🍻

have just checked the new needle code number and the are ABT the old needle code is AAR will this cause a problem?

I think the AAR needles are slightly thinner hence will give a richer mixture than ABT. Perhaps the previous owner used the AARs to compensate for the pancakes and your tubular manifold will also require a richer mixture. Playing around with needles, damper oils and damper spring rates has aged and frustrated me over the last 2 years!

  10. I keep getting message at the top of the page when on the forum saying with white letters on orange background "Nuala Dowie Facebook account has been hacked". I rarely use Facebook and have no idea who he/she is. Has anyone else experienced this message? It only appears when I first open the forum page.

  11. We bumped into Malta on a cruise and decided to go back for a shore holiday. They drive on the correct side of the road! Huge amount of history and the harbour and surrounding area straight out of the Knights Templar.

  12. Vitesse, Spitfires and TR6 on Malta Jewel of the Med tonight at 8pm. You can watch on catch up. They were racing in an annual rally race. Aside from the racing I like Malta as a destination. Lovely people and lots to see.

waxstat like the bimetallic system on later Stromberg is just for running in different ambient temperatures

I didn't know that was the reason for the waxstat. I only had my Spitfire 1500 with SUs for 6 months and never played with it.

I don't see why it would need the mixture and/or the timing adjusting as

Cold air is more dense so in theory requires more fuel to maintain the correct air/fuel ratio. Modern cars do this by an array of sensors, fuel injection and magic. We, again in theory, have to tweek the carbs but in practice no one does.

  15. I get 25psi when hot. Even though the low oil pressure light stayed off low oil pressure was the cause of my crank requiring a regrind.

My Vitesse engine with full gas flowed etc etc head and bottom end rebuild cost just over £3k without new pistons and just a rehone but included a billet cam and a huge headache sorting out the carb needles, springs!

    boys from Hereford

I went there once as we were given a very active demonstration of their Land Rover prior to being asked to quote for an updated version. A very odd place and wouldn't have asked about their preference of which denier they use!

Yes, I suspect the thermostat was barely opening which will restrict the flow so the coolant will take longer to pass through the rad and return to the engine even colder, keeping the engine cooler etc etc lol

What temperature thermostat is fitted? Low temperature summer thermostats are no good for cold winters. At mid 70s most thermostats are still closed so there will be no flow through the radiator.
