Someone posted?, about fitting the drop down accelerator (Spitfire?) to a Herald, don`t know if that would give increased clearance?.

The PO fitted one in my Vitesse. Nice and smooth but I still hit brake and accelerator.

  2. In no stretch of imagination could you call my jiggin' up and down dancing🕺. Anyway you couldn't see my shoes over the flared trousers! In big Oxford bags I would dance away and the trousers never moved...

    Thankfully no photos survive!

try wearing stilettos    great space savers

by the way  Ive not tried them

In the early 70s I had platform shoes. They were from Ravels as my first wife used to work there. Not easy to drive in my Spitfire 1500

Yes luckily my legs are ok so pressure not a problem (yet) and I love the reduced travel. NOS asbestos pads a great help as well...

I'll check to see what diameter MC the PO had fitted. I have Mintex 1144 pads. With less travel I might not hit the accelerator ar much!

While searching for the cause of my new servo not working I suspected the MC and replaced it with a spare which had a smaller bore, just 1/4" less. This increased the stroke by 2" and couldn't be improved by extensive bleeding. I put the old one back.

Good to know that pedal stroke is excessive. I take it even with the correctly assembled MC the stroke wouldn't have improved as its purely due to moving a volume of fluid.

  6. A larger bore displaces more fluid but at less pressure. Don't we need a smaller diameter to reduce pedal force? However it would result in more pedal stroke to displace enough fluid.

What to do going forward remains unclear at the moment 🤦🏼‍♂️

The standard Vitesse brakes are fine for me. Having driven autos for many years what I don't like is the small brake pedal!

The other reason is that too much advance will cause pre-ignition and possibly serious engine damage

It is a worry as at 35 deg I'm at the top end of safe. The advance curve on my DD tweeked distributor  is steeper than standard. Do you know your advance curve?

I'm running a Pertronix 2 with a Flamethrower coil, currently set to 12 deg by strobe, which works ok without any pinking.

I have the same ignition set up and using 17 deg with no pinking. My distributor advance is according to the graph supplied by Distributor Doctor is 9 deg at 2000rpm then flat lines.

This setting results in 9x2+17=35 total advance at 2000rpm and higher.

think if you start all that in your cabin it will be "away anchor" or something close to that.

Very true, I may be holding the steering wheel but the wife drives! Lights are green, watch that idiot, did you see that whatever by the road (no dear I'm watching the idiots on the road)........

  11. Pete, Google says:-Weighing” is bringing the anchor in, not dropping it. It's a holdover of a Dutch or Old English usage of the word meaning 'to raise up. ' A lot of nautical English words are adaptations of Dutch. The command to drop the anchor is “let go.

I think you're correct. Dick where are you?
