  1. Hello All

I have sorted out my spare piece of veneer it looks ok just a bit wrinkled but I have wet it and clamped it between 2 sheets of plywood with some lining paper to flatten it.

I have done a bit of reinforcing of the cardboard backing and the plywood front.

The one in Spitty still looks good and not faded(we rarely put the hood up unless peeing down!

    Hello Mathew

You started late and have a long way to go yet! (75)

    I still have 3 Motorcycles(Velocette's) 3 Triumphs and a Morris Minor Traveller!

I did sell a Vitesse a few weeks ago so that's a start? and a few parts!

That looks great. What wood is that veneer?

    Hello Cliff

I can not remember but I will look through my notes and see if I can find the name!

I think it was African something?

I have enough left to do the Vitesse dashboard.

  4. Hello Cliff

I re veneered the dashboard in Spitty about 5 years ago and it still looks good.

    I used this glue

Gorilla Glue 60ml 1044202 Multi Purpose Extra Strong Glue | eBay

    I used this coating.

Gorilla Glue 60ml 1044202 Multi Purpose Extra Strong Glue | eBay

It is not difficult but takes time!

I think I put about 10 coats on it with lots of flatting down in between final grade was 2000 wet and dry then Rustins burnishing cream.

    Roger

ps just about to do the Vitesse one.

  5. Hello All

I had 2 letters from DVLA!

One is a tax reminder for a Triumph Vitesse

The other one is to say their records have been up dated and I am no longer the keeper of this vehicle Triumph Vitesse as in letter one!!!

    Both in the same post!

"the ShockProof gear oils contain a copper deactivator so are safe with brass, bronze or copper though contain a friction modifier so could be too slippery for synchros and one reason they aren’t recommended for most street applications.

    Hello All

So that means they are safe for us but maybe a bit more expensive !

But lots spend a lot more on Bling and only drive a few hundred miles a year!

I know were my money goes!

Been using the Redline shockproof in my Vitesse for about 15 years. It’s blood red..... and stays that colour even after hooning up and down the autobahns, unlike the stuff I used before which would go black and lumpy after one trip....

It is expensive but not as expensive as a diff....

    Nick

    Hello All

As I said I have been using it for about 7 years and stays clean and not seen any bits in it and as I said I only swopped diffs because of slack in output shafts and when I stripped it to change the output shafts and gears the bearings and play was the same as when I rebuilt it the first time

Now it is in the Vitesse ready to to do more service and raise the cruising speeds!

I would not use anything else now but if you only drive to shows at 30mph do not bother it would be a waste of money but if you use your car as Nick said much cheaper than a diff rebuild!

  8. Hello All

I thought I would show you this I made about 60 years ago or a bit less!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I made it up so I could ride my Motorcycle to work while I was painting the petrol tank!

And as you see it is still in use and has been on many occasions !

  9. Hello Richard

One of them I started it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think a lot of it is impatience and not wanting to wait for things to be delivered I want to do it now or tantrum!

Plus in the past we did not have Tinterweb to turn to!

  10. Hello

Yes that is the one and I have used it for about 7 years and 2 differentials(only changed because the output drive shafts and gears had a lot of slack in them!)

I just hunt Fleabay etc for the cheapest.

We have done about 30,000 miles on them and in normal times some is at motorway speeds as we go to Spain, Spa etc

I am going to Synthetic in the gearbox when I get around to changing it(different make)

Thanks for that I will set it to a loose 10 thou

    Regards Keith

    Hello Keith

I can not see the point of loose 10 thou then it would be 11,12,13?

But I agree 10 thou as factory!

  13. Hello All

Me and the Memsahib had a run out on our own and stopped to look a bridge then All these Triumphs turned up but we gave them the cold shoulder and drove off but the buggers followed us and I did my best to loose then on the scenic run but I must be getting slow?

Then it turns out they had bought a picnic like us!!! so we obviously ignored them again!

Then some of the buggers followed us to a nice café for cake and coffee!!

    Riff Raff ?

  14. Hello All

I had a run out in Spitty yesterday and happened to mention it to a couple of friends and they decided to go to the same place as I said I was going!

The truth is I could not loose them in the twisty bits!

So we all ended up at Hellen Manor Herefordshire.

I hope the tea I drank did not come in that tea chest!

Then the cheeky blighters followed me to a Café on Bringsty Common for a cake etc
