One of the advatages of being retired? The down side is bein old!

So we thought time is getting short and we do not think we will be touring Spain this year in Spitty so every week and some week ends

  2. Hello All

We had a ride out Shobdon Airfield last Wednesday for Breakfast then to Bringsty Common Café for afternoon Tiffin.

    We did about 130 miles

Its a Hard life but someone has to do it so we have stepped up to the plate!

  3. Hello Paul

I did the same and made a linkage to operate both chokes from one cable

I used 6mm couplings and turned the butterfly shafts down as I was changing them and discs

  4. Hello All

I also need a new trolley jack as all the cheap ones are leaking now!!

Has anybody used these people and what about this jack?

I do not use a trolley jack that often as I have mechanical 4 post lift and 2 scissor jacks to lift weight off the wheels when at working height before chocking up

I would like one that is not as heavy to carry etc(getting OLD)

What will it look like? I'm no good at photo shop thingies. I think they are 'peperpot' ? Holes all round outside and no hub caps. 4 of them on Ebay for 15 quid. 4.5j too. Unfortunately 50 quid postage!

Im only looing as you lot reckon I need wider wheels for my new tyres :)

ends in an hour or two

    Hello

            Will this help?

Round here lots of cyclist have flashing very bright lights on their bikes and seemingly aim them at drivers. Really P's me off!

    Hello Mark

But you forget they do not have to abide by the same rules as you in your car(they are Superior!)

    Roger

ps they P me off as well but what I think is strange they all must drive cars so do they get P,d off as well???

I’d be extremely reluctant to remove any metal from the block, especially that close to the edge of the bore. The engine had managed 50 years or so as it is. Certainly would be looking at how the same gasket hole relates to the matching hole in the head - if there even is a matching hole in the head?

    Nick

    Hello Nick

I just mean a chamfer to the gasket hole and top photo left-hand one is just as close!

But would probably make no difference!

It will if the head stud holes in the block (3/8” UNF) are drilled out and re-tapped 7/16” UNF. Not a bad mod for a mk 1 head either.

    Hello David

I drilled and tapped mine to 7/16" UNF (But I did make a jig to make sure they are square etc)

    Roger

ps I sold it to another member on the condition he would lend or sell it to others to use>

  9. Hello All

I am thinking of not refitting the 6 branch manifold and drain pipe exhaust back onto our Vitesse Mk1 2Ll

I have ported the head and it is on 9.5 to 1 compression

It has a Chris Witor 25,65,65,25 can with extra lift on both lobes and will have radiused stub stacks it has a Chris Witor reprofiled inlet manifold as well.

I have fitted a 3.63 diff and reconditioned and refitted the O/D gearbox for relaxed cruising (70/80 mph) at 3000/3500 rpm

All my reading seems to point to 6 branch making extra power higher up the rev range and lots of heat(I have a 4 branch in Spitty and lagged and it is still bloody hot!)

We are hoping to tour in this car in HOT counties so not sure I want the extra heat?

Plus we like climbing up mountains passes(in the car not that mad!)

I would like a bit of noise as the 6 cylinder sounds nice but refined!

So what are the collective thoughts/Experiance?

    Roger

ps it also runs Megajolt  electronic ignition so can be set to rpm and Manifold pressure and does not wave about(rock steady)

As a controls engineer, I would agree with you, nice two stage cooling (Three if you include the passive cooling - which you should!)

    Hello Mark

You probably clever at this than me (seat of the pants stuff and if it looks right chances are it is close?)

Under normal conditions only one fan comes on the few times the second one comes on (on its own) is Spain stuck on a motorway in 30+ degs

Or me hitting the over ride as I see the traffic stopping after a quick run!

Plus I think it helps for a quicker warm up! (and may give 1 mpg more?)
