"I'm sure if the forum held a practical masterclass in these techniques we would all breath a sigh of relief as you can't beat seeing a skilled individual in action!"

  2. A friend has a giant Citroen that can tell you individual tyre pressures, how does that work?!! One of the sensors failed and the flat tyre warning light flashed persistently, so he took the bulb out.

Made the mistake of going onto the Smiths web site, Ambient Air Temperature, a very pretty gauge with green and brown sections! I need one.

those ambient temp gauges are rare and go for over £200 on ebay, saw one the other week.

  3. hi all,

    GT6 mk3

is there any problem with cutting the inner wheel wells and spring/diff tunnel out... in one hit... if the body it still bolted to the frame at the front ? or would i need to support the body underneath the main floor ?

i will be replacing the inner(and outer) wheel wells and spring/diff tunnel but will also be re-welding the middle floor as well.

    all suggestions gratefully recived !

    cheers paul

  4. You need to measure the end float with the assembly tightened up with an ungreased bearing, not unloaded. If you have no DTI, look for very slight play, if there is no play it's too tight and you need additional or thicker shims. Once you've got the end float right strip the assembly down again and grease the bearing.

The nut should have been very tight, if it's loose then the nut probably hadn't locked. There is an issue in that most of the nuts available nowadays are too thick (The originals were special nylocks thinner than standard) and the locking part of the nylock won't lock properly as the end of the thread on the shaft tapers slightly. To avoid the issue of thinner nuts just use locktite to lock the nut.

we ought to have a group run thru or you tube video of this procedure , i'm sure its very easy but there are always questions about it and its always easier to do once you've been shown the correct way ...

  5. Are you sure all panels are available? I though some large ones were not (eg roof, screen surround, bulkhead and I think new bonnets are difficult, depending on the marque) let alone some of the smaller bits and bobs.

besides, getting that lot to fit together may be a challenge, getting one new panel can be a nightmare.

If seriously considering this route, check everything is actually available rather than just listed in a catalogue.

like I said I may have missed a few panels but it was more of a thought rather than doing it.

still I cant belive someone hasn't started doing this as people seem to change a lot of bodywork chasing rust, so a new body shell on a spit chassis(for me)would seem like a good option.....

  6. hi all,

kind of thinking out loud here and I'm sure its been brought up before...

but has anyone built a new bodyshell for a GT6 before? are there any jigs to do this around ?

from what I can see every panel is available unless I've missed something.

  7. hi all,

has anyone here tried the mikuni carb conversion on a gt6 ?

I come from a bike racing background so I'm quite familiar with these carbs and happened to see a kit conversion on an American site.

    all the best
