  1. As the 2 litre engine was used in a number of models the fan spacer come in three sizes. The Vitesse should have the thinnest spacer. I have found some Vitesse fitted with the thicker types, that then will restrict the clearance. You need shorter bolt with the thinner spacer. I did an article about this a number of years ago, maybe I need to rerun it. Dave
  2. Your manifold is from a pre-Stromberg Vitesse 6, 1962 to late 1965. The difference being the plates for mounted the Solex air-cleaner assembly. In the short term I would repair as given above. Brazing should be considered. Long term I would source a second hand replacement. 2 Litre Vitesse Mk1, GT6 Mk1 and 2000 Mk1 Saloon all have the same type of exhaust manifold. Dave
  3. If you PM me I should be able to find out which year. Dave
  4. Nigel, You have done it now you put it on social media. There be a police car tailing you next time you go out! Dave
  5. I removed the outer bearing with a Clark's bearing puller, it cups around the bearing. I drifted the new one on with a piece of thick walled ally tube using oil to easy the way. Dave
  6. Now all we can do is polish them. Dave
  7. Normally - 2.5 Litre injection. Used in TR5/6 or 2500 PI Big Saloon. Dave
  8. Doug, I can confirm the lack of fuel at the pump, the time gap appears to depend on if its cold or hot weather. Shorter with hot weather. Again refurbed the pump and it made no difference. I agree the delay does help pump the oil up. Dave
  9. Also just to add the carbs tend to evaporate the fuel due to the heat under the bonnet after you have used the car. Just walk around a line of Vitesse and GT6 at a show on a hot day, you can spell the petrol. Dave
  10. The tac fed is from points to the coil wiring through the loom. If you bypass/remove this with a direct feed to the electronic box the tac will not work. You have to leave the coil end of the original wiring connected. Dave
  11. Were possible I have re-taped with metric, if not then used helicoil for similar jobs without any problems. I agree with Pete also use a sealer. Dave
  12. Had the Golf and the Vitesse done earlier this month. But not, now, planning to use the Vitesse and the Golf only for essential shopping. I agree with PeterH there could be a back log at the end of the 6 months, from 30th March, if its not a running/rolling extension. Both my other cars will be in this period. Dave
  13. Getting to the Dizzy on the TR7 is just as difficult as the 1850 Dolomite. Most people fit electronic ignition. There is an air scope above the dizzy which un-clips for removal. Dave
  14. Always take the thermostat out so you can then flush into the head/engine. Flush the rad from top and then the bottom. Drain by removing the hoses. Make sure you undo/remove the drain tap/plug on the block, manifold side. Flush out the heater. If it is a Vitesse with heated inlet manifold then flush this out. BUT do not try to remove the large bolt at the heater end as they normally shear off leaving the threaded part in the manifold, Carefully clean its ports out with a piece of stiff wire. Dave
  15. I cleared the workbench and have started going through the junk that has built up over the winter months in the garage. Also I must start up the MX5 tomorrow as it has been used for a number of months. I can sit in it and hear the engine go Brum Brum! Dave
  16. The engine should be be OK. However, the water pump seals may suffer. It could start leaking once the coolant has been replaced and the engine started. There is no way of knowing before hand. Dave
  17. If the circlip is not located correctly or just knackered then its often pushed off when you change down and use the gears to reduce speed. Dave
  18. Due to the health care available Cornwall has asked people not to visit the area. Evidently there have been a number of people taking advantage of the forced break by holidaying in Devon and Cornwall. Must be self catering. Dave
  19. Pete, Sounds a sensible approach by Bern. Left hope all at HQ stay well. Dave
  20. Took the Vitesse for it's MOT on Monday. It passed without any problems. As it was a nice sunny day the garage provided chairs to sit outside Isolated. It was great to drive the Vitesse again after it's winter layoff. It was alive again with the noise, smell and feeling you get from driving your classic. Dave
  21. Looks good. The Camber Compensator was developed and used by the US Triumph Competitions team headed up by Kas Kastner back in the 1960's. So it has a historic record. In the 1960's I can remember seeing it fitted to rally 948 Heralds in the UK. Dave
  22. Clive, I agree this thing just ain't going away in a hurry. We have to make the best of it. Dave
