Questions being asked here in France as well about the date.

In the case of Germany if I remember correctly the legislation was agreed between the EU countries then at the last minute Germany had second thoughts. It could mean the EU date gets put back.

All they need to do is to find a scapegoat then the date can safely be postponed or cancelled. They can't blame the general public as the cost of buying an EV is excessive, although the disabled lobby are complaining that they'd love to drive EVs but the Motability limit doesn't allow for the extra price compared to ICE. They can either blame the Government for the lack of charging infrastructure - after all it's the GOV who pay for and build all those petrol stations round the country, not the fuel companies who make money from them - or the manufacturers for the lack of budget vehicles that the plebs can drive. The incentives such as free charging and no road tax don't seem to have been enough to tempt people.

I had a look at this a while back. Typically what is called the "up front payment" for the same model/equipment has a £1400+ premium for an E-V as oposed to Petrol Model.

For example a New Peugeot 208 E-V. (the mobility example used above) is £8,500 more than the equivalent Petrol variant.
