Best place to buy spares...?

Hi

I need some engine parts for the GT6 - timing chain, sprockets etc.

Can anyone recommend the best place to go for stuff like this - I know there has been bad reports occasionally about some stuff from the main Triumph parts specialists (mentioning no names) and I myself have had some appalling quality parts. Just a bit worried about important bits like engine parts.

Thanks for any help / reassurance!

Pete

Hello Pete.

Needless to say you will be getting (I hope !!) quite a few responses from regular users on here.

Personally my first port of call is Canley Classics. I can vouch that their service is excellent with decent prices compared to some other outlets.

The club shop is a very good source for items, with excellent advice + back-up service should that be required.

I think at the end of the day this is a topic that needs putting into perspective: I have used a number of Ebay sellers (business) for parts on my Vitesse and Alpine and have not experienced a problem. Mainly that is due to being happy with the sellers feedback and general comments.

Conversely there are a number of Ebay sellers and also non-Ebay sellers that I will not use. Some of these other businesses advertise via the usual classic car magazines, papers and other on-line access points.

Going through the pages of this Forum you will see various threads relating to your initial question and one must draw natural conclusions from these I believe.

From the responses you get on here I think you will be well equipped to make those decisions and have your "favourites" in a short period of time.

Good luck.

Richard.

First port of call, club shop, then Canleys then Rimmers.

Although, my dodgy servo came from Rimmers, there was a reason it was £30 cheaper than anywhere else! But once I took it to pieces and put it back together again it was fine.

For engine parts search out the quality makes.

ie I know many timing chain tensioners would be better made out of cheese than the coke-cans some manufacturers are using. And any one supplier may be selling the only stuff available at that time.

For a top quality build you WILL have to search out those elusive parts. Vandervell bearings (I think one of the TR peeps has some?) are great, but try to find the very best parts you can.

payen gaskets are generally the best, though saying that NOS gaskets (apart for head gasket) are usually far better. The box of stanpart sump gaskets I finally finished a few years ago were way better than anything else I have used.

Ebay turns up some gems, as do the autojumbles. The research is the hard bit.
