sialisplat
I've discovered an oil leak from my engine, does this mean everything is operating as normal?

Mike
Someone wiser than me once said " It's more worrying when there is no oil leeking because if it stops leeking it's empty!". I quite like the oily kiss mine leaves behind.
Cookie
If it stops leaking then you need to get worried as it means the oil has run out :-)
Peaks
So that means that all is well with not only my engine, but my gearbox & diff as well. Result!!
Andy Sollis
If you have ever seen Disney's "Cars 2" there is a joke about BL cars with the saying "if there ain't no oil under 'em, there ain't not oil in them!" I guess someone in the states did their research! Andy
Colin Lindsay
However it all depends on where it is coming from... slight seepage is normal, large pools aren’t, and even small drips overnight can become worrying flows when warm or at speed…. make sure it’s not being blown out due to excess pressure, or pouring out due to a cracked or warped component. Clean the engine, then watch where it escapes from. Above all keep it topped up!
ptr200
Had an oil leak on my MK2 GT6 engine a couple years ago, well more than one actually... at that time I did not have the breather pipe and unit on the car, I just bunged the breather pipe overboard. I then read a post re the "negative pressure" required to keep the oil in the engine... I.E. no oil leaks !! or was it positive? anyway I fitted the correct setup to the breather system and overnight the engine oil leaks were cured....... just got to work out how to stop the gearbox depositing a small do do on the garage floor....... PeterH
In 70s, 80s I worked for Massey Ferguson Industial - we fitted Perkins deisels - They wanted them painted Black so as not to show the oil leaks. We painted them yellow and were forever getting warranty claims. Peter
JohnD
Simon, If you are serious, not just starting thread for the hell of it, where is the leak coming from? There are a number of notorious leak points, most are curable. But "a leak" is incurable. JOhn
