Hello All, :D

I am a new member ,just bought a mk3 Spitfire in need of restoration been stored since 1986.

It's  signal red,and the vin number is FD47773, Engine number FD 44284 HF.

The mileage shown is 18k ,the only paperwork I have is some old mot's back to 1977 when the mileage was 5k so may be genuine.

I would like to find out if the engine is the original ,is this possible ?can any one advise please.

Anyone know the car from the past ,reg number is YBJ 318G and was from the Clacton on Sea area Essex.

Regards

Stu

The best way to check is to apply for a BMHIT certificate - just google it for a link.

You supply the Commission number and pay the required fee and a few days/weeks later you get a certificate with all the data transcribed from the original production records for the car.

There is a pretty good chance it is the original engine, the engines and bodies came down the separate lines at about the same rate, so they are usually within a few 1000 of each other, regularly with a couple of hundred.

Alos, you mis-read the final letter, it is an "E"

Cheers
