Rear Number Plate Light - Spitfire 1500

Hi all,

I managed to pick up a rear number plate lamp at a car boot sale for pennies the other day, one of these: https://rimmerbros.com/Item--i-GRID005822

I prefer these over the two little bobble lights that are currently on my Spitfire, however the two stalks that come off the bottom of the lamp that fit into the bumper aren't wide enough apart to fit the holes where the current lights are.

Have I picked up a rear lamp for another model, or do I need to get my drill out? (gulp!)

                       I found this out aswell when I picked up a tatty but useable one

I think Triumph did it on purpose!

ps I just left the little ones on! there are probably some after market fancy ones that would fit!

yep, it's a different model: as you've said - there are either two lights, or one long light, but they can't be combined into the same mounting holes.

That's a Mk IV/early 1500 rear light, rather than the much cheaper late 1500 'dot' lights.

The early unit is more than big-enough to cover the later holes, so you just need to drill a few additional holes (2x large bulb holes and 2x small mounting screw holes from memory).

Thanks guys, looks like I'll be taking a drill to the bumper once I gather the courage! 

The bumper isn't exactly concours condition anyway so no big loss if I screw it up!
