pokey
Hi all, I have recently changed the engine in my gt6 from a 2.5 ME engine back to a standard KE engine. When giving the gearbox/od a clean, I noticed that it has a WE number. I'm assuming its from the same 2.5 car. Physically it fits into the car ok, but is it suitable for my KE engine? Thanks Clive
johny
Are you sure thats not a WH? A photo of the gearbox would be useful to identify if its a 3 rail, single rail or a big Triumph box as I believe all could be fitted to your engine.... Colin Lindsay
I could guess that WE is Dolomite 1850, didn't we have a thread on this a good while back? I know WH and WM are, and there was a school of thought that the WE ones were too. It'll be a straight fit for the 2-litre car but you may find the ratios are more suited to cruising than racing. pokey
Couldnt find anything on google, sothanks very much for your replies. Hopefully i have put up some pictures to help. Definately a we.
dave.vitesse
If it starts with W then looking at the picture its an early Dolomite 1850, 1972-1974. Three rail with D type overdrive. Its the same as the GT6 and 2 Litre Vitesse gearbox. So No problems. Dave

johny
yes Clive thats very similar to the correct gearbox for your car and its probably good that youve returned to the original engine as the gearbox, being basically a Herald item, would be at its limit.... Clive
But isn't that a D type OD? The dolomite box had the J type. So it is probably a recon box built into a dolomite case. Happened a lot when the cars were less old and the recon business was doing a roaring trade...

Although with that strange serial number who knows what Triumph were producing in the D to J overdrive change over....
