Mechanic/Garage recommendations in Leicestershire

Hi all

I am hoping someone can help.  After several years of my Sptifire 1500 being off the road, first standing outside and then inside a garage, I have decided to get it back on the road.  I have owned the car for 30 years and I have only ever used one mechanic, who has now retired.  Although I have a local garage that is good for our modern car I really want someone who knows about classic cars.  I am not looking for concours condition restoration but something for everyday use.  Any recommendations would be gratefully received.

Forgot to say, preferably in the Coalville area.  Or even a mobile mechanic.

Thanks

Have you not got a set of AF spanners and have a go yourself?. What does it need Gary? Body? Mechanics (engine/suspension/drive system) or just a service? Most seem to do their own thing and I assure you that the pleasure of DIY is phenomenal. Good luck finding someone if you do not fancy it yourself. Keep well, ATB!

Gary,

It will be worth going along to the TSSC monthly meeting in your area; the Leicester & Rutland group meet at Thurnby in the Rose & Crown - 1st Tuesday.

You will be chatting with like minded folk who will hopefully assist / advise you.

Good luck.

Richard.

Thanks for the replies.  I always wanted to work on it myself but time has slipped by and I can't see a start in the foreseeable future.  It probably hasn't run in over 10 years now so needs a bit more than a service and a tinker.  I wanted to be driving it before it becomes a retirement project, although retirement isn't that far away now!  Where did that time go.  I thought a running car would get me using it and having some fun.  Not in a huge rush as the 'new' plan was to get it worked on over the winter so it is ready for next summer.

I would have preferred to go to the local meeting to chat to others but that isn't possible at the moment.  Therefore, hoping there may be some local members on the forum, before I ring up and hassle David Smith.  It must be bad enough being an organiser anyway without a stranger ringing up to pick his brains.

Thanks again

Oh yes being an Organiser is bad, really bad, the club would be great if it wasn't for all these members.

I guess we take it on because we love the cars and if we can help save another one, hooray!

I've had an unsolicited email only this morning, a guy in a very similar position. I passed him on to one of East Berks membership who is ecstatic to get some work!

Phone David up, you know you want to!

Like Doug, I occasionally get unsolicited emails or phone calls from Spitfire or GT6 owners who I've never met. In my case, as a "model specialst" (for another club), these calls can come from very far afield. I'd say more than half of them want to pick my brains on a question I've never really contemplated but I'm still happy to help in so far as I can. I expect David will probably feel the same when you ring him.
