Paul H
Hi , thought the following might be of interest to others who are refurbing their Vitesse , Herald doors . The pic above shows the quarter light stripped down , the mid item is the old window runner channel removed , the inner padding has rotted away so scrap. The lower item is the Canleys replacement part no 559474 . This is a flexible channel which will be glued into the quarter light channel The above pic is the rear window channel with the replacement Canleys rear window channel part no T2. ( lower item ) The 3 brackets need removing and riveted to the new channel To replace both doors with new front and rear channels cost £20.33 deld from Canleys , not a bad price to cure rattly windows Hope this helps Paul
Pete Lewis
take photos and sketches of the brackets , as they all go ape when you rivet them and nothing resembles what you take off the little sods move and there is a limit how many times you can rivet them before you run out of channel this simple job drove me to drink then the upside down wrong way round all starts to look fine till you put them in the door pete

PeteH
Hi Both mine are off at the moment. I was wondering where I Might get the Channel liner. So thats a Pointer👍 Pete
PeteH
Having now got the passenger side off. The metal sections have been scrubbed and treated with Rust killer. I find the rear inner, have had the Brackets "tack" welded on, not riveted?. Fortunately they are recoverable, the other "strange" thing is that the Inner "felt" strips where wrapped all round the channel(s) with a sort of adhesive woven tape?. Is that Original, or possibly the result of some later refurbishment?. I am assuming the Canley type Channel liner will still fit?. Width of the steel channel appears to be +/- 1/2". Pete Lewis
most replacements are felt bedded in a plastic channel which ever its very easy to rivet the support brkts, on upsidedown inside out and despite taking care you feel daft when it wont match the door deceitful little sods Pete

The outer width of the rear channel is 0.48ins and the pic shows the existing channel alongside the Canleys version Paul
Pete Lewis
not sure will the replacement fit inside the orig metal channel ?? something often lost is there is a wire coat hanger thing that links the base of the two guides , think to stop them spreading with door slam and glass down , prevents the channel rolling and the glass peels out https://www.canleyclassics.com/?catalogue=triumph-vitesse&diagram=triumph-vitesse-vitesse-mkii-door-assembly item 36 Pete

Pete Lewis
old stiff wire coat hanger is about right just hooks into the base of the channels to tie them from spreading if youve never had them doubt you'll ever miss them Pete
Colin Lindsay
19 hours ago, PeteH said: Item 36? NLA. What dia of material is it fabricated from? No sign of them On either of my doors?. Pete Quite thick heavy wire; loops round the channel at the B-post end and screws to a bracket close to the front, low down on the inner frame, which allows it to be tensioned. As Pete says it keeps the window channels tight so that the glass doesn't rattle. You can see it halfway along the door, where it's fixed to the door frame with a clip.

PeteH
Cheers for that. Looks to be about 1/8" (2-3mm) dia, with a loop one end Bent at the other end?. I will have to have a look in the mulltitude of collected bits that came with the "project". I think I have some Steel of that ilk (somewhere!!!!) Pete Lewis
you could probably use some thick gauge garden wire its tie rod doenst do anything other than stop any channel spread when you slam the door with the glass down low Pete
