jim biggie
The driver side sun visor has fallen off. I managed to retrieve the three screws from the fitting. I feels as if they each screw into a wooden fitting behind the headlining. Is this correct? When trying to reinstate the screws I am unable to gain any purchase. It feels as if the "bedding" for the screws has deteriorated somewhat. Would I have to remove the headlining to gain access to reinstate the bedding. If so would this entail removing the front windscreen? Hopefully not. Would appreciate any thoughts towards this issue. Many Thanks, Jim.
NonMember
I think they're just self-tappers into the steel of the windscreen frame - that's what I have on my Mk3 Spitfire and what there used to be on my Mk3 GT6. They've probably pulled the holes oversize and you'll need bigger screws.
Colin Lindsay
I'd use any of the modern vehicle 'rawl plugs' (grommet nuts?) to insert into the existing holes and give a grip. Any vehicle parts outlet, autofactors or even Halfords will have blister packs in their 'interior trim' section, just find whichever size fits the hole and press in. Stratton Jimmer
One of my Mk3 GT6 sun visor bolts had a sheared off head. I drilled it out and it was a 3/8 UNF. In doing so, I damaged the thread and so I re-tapped the hole with a 1/4 UNF and used an Allen dome head set screw to refit the visor.
