AidanT
I am fed up with my static seat belts falling out the door when not in use. I don't want to fit inertia reel ones so has any one found a solution like fitting stowage hooks somewhere? Thx
dougbgt6
The mk3 has them at the top of the door pillar but I've never seen them for sale.
AidanT
Hi - Would be grateful for a picture if you can provide one - The closest I have come to is a Landrover Stwage hook for seat belts part 347541 but don't know if its suitable or where and how to fit Thx

AidanT
That's not a surprise from RB - £2.46 each plus delivery from a land rover parts supplier! Aidan
dougbgt6
My camera battery is flat, should charged up in a couple of hours then I'll take a photo. In the meantime these are on Ebay, none quite like mine except possibly the last one. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MK2-CORTINA-GT-1600E-LOTUS-GENUINE-FORD-NEW-OLD-STOCK-FRONT-SEATBELT-HANGER-HOOK-/321702767232?hash=item4ae6faaa80 How much! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/EX-Seat-belt-hook-black-/361374160524?hash=item542394168c http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Seat-Belt-Top-Cover-Large-w-HOOK-Ford-XK-XY-XC-Holden-FX-HK-HG-HQ-HX-HZ-WB-LC-UC-/271951574664?hash=item3f5193b688 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NOS-UNIPART-STOWAGE-HOOK-SEAT-BELT-LAND-ROVER-SERIES-IIA-III-101-FWC-PN-347541-/161769014477?hash=item25aa2f44cd
dougbgt6
Here's a picture of my hook, there used to be a black plastic disc covering the screw and washer but that's long since popped out.
AidanT
Thanks Doug that's useful - Do you think its just held there with a self tapping screw then? Cheers Aidan
dougbgt6
Yes they are self tappers, factory fitted. Incidentally I've fitted inertia reels, I'm very pleased with them, previously I couldn't reach the ignition key with the static belt on! Not good if you stall! AidanT
Hi Doug Yes I thought of doing that however the Mk one does not have an anchor point on the door pillar - I have seen pictures of them in a mk3 but never seen them fitted to a MK1 Not sure if you can fit them without the pillar mount plus if they do not have that mount it's difficult to reach back to get them. It's lucky I have long arms !!
dougbgt6
There's no pillar mount on the mk3 either! What your thinking comes from the door pillar actually comes from the old static anchor point on the top of the wheel arch. I'm guessing what you've seen is the belt hanging from the hook? AidanT
Could well be! it was a picture on the Club Triumph forum of Cookies Mk3 You certainly have me thinking! but I will need the hooks in either case. You are right by the way they are as rare as hens teeth as originally fitted! but persistence is my middle name ! Ha
Gully
And when you do still have the original hooks fitted in your Mk 3, there's no guarantee that the shape of the replacement metal seat belt bits will fit / hang off them! Wonder how I know... A mod to be done one wet winter's day! Gully
dougbgt6
Didn't want to own up to that but, ditto!
AidanT
No idea why nothing was fitted in the MK1 to keep the belts tidy! I guess it was a bit of a novelty item at the time (Before anyone shouts at me - I know it's one of the safety feature that the car was originally sold on and I shouldn't call it a novelty!) Anyway I have managed to find some MK3 ones (I did say I was persistent!) - They are in the post. I am going to call it an upgrade to the original !! dougbgt6
Like Gully says, hope they fit your belts. My new metal parts have a round hole and vertical slot while the originals had a horizontal slot. Having thought about it, I'm gonna take a punt on a couple of these: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/EX-Seat-belt-hook-black-/361374160524?hash=item542394168c
AidanT
Please send a picture in when you've done them! I have the original 1968 static Seat belts and yes they flew through the MOT They are the old Square hole type so I am assuming they will fit nicely Aidan
Gully
Let us know how you get on please Doug! Gully
dougbgt6
The hooks arrived today so I've put one on, temporally, to see how it looks. It's plastic but, so was the old one, it's from a beetle I think. The old hook had a thick steel washer and a rubber washer behind it to allow the hook to swivel. I put this back with the new hook but you can see it, as its bigger than the radius of the top of the hook. I may dispense with it and put another screw in the hook to fix it vertically. Unfortunately the head lining under the old hook has discoloured so I'll see if it will clean up or maybe put a bigger black washer underneath the new hook. It does the job so I'm quite please with what is a trivial fix!
AidanT
Well I did mine over the weekend - Not too bad I think - I also had to do a slight adaptation but here's the pic
dougbgt6
Aidan, well done! That looks different again from my originals and my new ones. Amazing the problems a trivial job can cause.
