  1. The TSSC Club shop supply "Spitfire/ GT6 Wheel Silver- 400ml of cellulose acurately matched to the original factory finish on the later Spitfire and GT6 steel wheels, finish of with the clear lacquer." I used this on a TR6 wheel, it was pretty close in colour to the other wheels on the TR and on my GT6.
  2. That is the duct to the right hand lower dash eyeball vent. Between it and the "Y" connector is the duct for the demister vent. Note that I think that the orientation of the "Y" connector is incorrect- see Chris Hawley's post. From bitter experience I recommend that you follow his recommendation of trial fitting the glove box while adjusting teh position of teh ducts and teh "Y" connector!
  3. Hi, Some photos are attached of my heater pipes before I took it all apart for a respray. Note that the car had had a previous restoration in the 1990s so they may not be in the original positions. As Doug states, they are of limited usefulness due to the lack of space and also as the dash is partially dismantled. There are significant space issues when putting it back together, notably attaching the demister pipes due to the wiper rack and then when you come to put the dash cubby boxes back in, you find the heater pipes are occupying the same space. It might be worth doing a trial instal of the cubby boxes before fixing all the pipes. I had the drivers side heater pipe "Y" junction in the horizontal plane as in the photos and it was a real fight to get the RH cubby box in. It might help if the "Y" junction is in a more vertical position as shown in the parts diagram if this is possible. Chris
  4. Thanks for the replies. Gave up in the end trying to fit the two clips under the quarterlight. The other clips and inner seals went on relatively easily using the bent metal strip special tools (home made) described in the manual- the seals I had were old stock parts as were the clips. As my doors have probably been reskinned and have relatively deep flanges in the window recess you could probably partially fit the forward clips before the quarterlight is fitted. Then fit the quarterlight trying not to knock the clips off, it may be possible then to fit the outer seal and force the clips up from inside the front of the door with a bit of wood or similar. As Pete says it would be a six hand job. As I have already had the quarterlights on and off twice the seals will be staying as they are. If they lift at the front I will resort to silicone to stick them down. On to rebushing the suspension now...
  5. Hi all, Forgive me if this has been covered elsewhere but I couldn't find anything useful. Finally got around to putting the doors back together on my 73 GT6 MkIII after a respray. The outer window seals are shown as having seven clips in the parts list and the NOS seals I have (Rover Part no 612792) have indents for two clips under the quarterlight. This would make seven with five clips in the window aperture and two under the quarterlight. The question is how do you install the clips under the quarterlight? It doesn't seem to be possible to fit these if the quarterlight is fitted unless there is some way of getting them on from inside the door with long nosed pliers. The window, if fitted to the bottom rail, has to be in the door before fitting the outer seal, this prevents removal of the quarterlight. The seal is currently installed with no clips under the quarterlight- it looks likely that it will work its way out of the slot between the door skin and the quarterlight as the door opens and shuts due to the flexible nature of the quarterlight and its fixings. I will probably have to resort to sticking it down with silicon or some similar adhesive. When I took the car apart the drivers door had a clip under the quarterlight so someone had suceeded in installing one. They hadn't bothered with the passenger side however so it cound't have been that easy to do. Anyone have any bright ideas? Chris
  6. A couple more pictures with the new headining fitted. It is glued on both sides of the hatch aperture and the back of the lower rail. He also glued the surplus headlining around the inside of the plastic vent duct where the hole had been cut out. The headlining doesn't touch the rear quarter trim panel (millboard or aluminium in my case).
  7. I have just had the same debate with the guy who was doing the respray of my GT6 MKIII and fitting a new headlining. The conclusion that we came to after looking at where the old headlining was glued was to glue it around the outer edge of the tailgate aperture and around the back of the lower rails that the rear side trim fixes to. We also decided to glue the trim around the inside of the aperture in the trim panel to make a better fit. This meant that you could see white headlining through the vent grill so being a bit anal I dyed this area black! As the hardboard trims were a bit distorted I replaced mine with 1.5mm aluminium, in hindsight I think 1mm would have been better and easier to shape as it does need a bit of a bend forming in it. Photos of the original fit of the vent and headlining are attached. I will try and get out to the garage in the next day or so and take a couple of photos of it as it is now. Chris
  8. Thanks for the advice guys- I will go with the professionals (if I can find one). When mentioning screen fitting on the GT6 with the stainless/ chrome surround to people I know who are in the classic car business the response is usually "I would get someone else to do it" At least MGB's seem to be equally disliked in the screen fitting department! Agree with Dave the Tram's (and posters on other topics) comments about screen rubbers- the COH Baines one is a different profile to those supplied by Rimmers and Canley Classics. From an initial look it does look as though the trim wil fit better on the Baines one. Chris
  9. My GT6 Mk3 has arrived back from a respray and I now have the problem of re-fitting the windscreen. The guys doing the respray tried and gave up- they would usually use one of the mobile windscreen companies. I have done the internet searches, bought a selection of screen rubbers, yes the COH Baines one does seem the best and most flexible, and decided to get a professional in. Can anyone recommend a windsceen fitter in Somerset (Yeovil/Taunton area) who has experience in fittig GT6 Mk3/late model Spitfire screens with the stainless trim? Or shall I just call Auto WIndcreens?
  10. Hi, I have some photos from when I was dismantling my 1974 GT6 Mk3 for a respray. They were intended to help with re-routing the pipes but looking at them now I am not that convinced of this but they may be of some use to you. Chris
